About the role:
The Finance and Operations Director leads the full range of operations and finance systems of the JVP family of organizations (comprised of JVP c3, JVPA c4) as well as our separate JVP Action PAC. This includes leadership of our financial functions, administrative systems, human resources, organizational infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and digital security. 

The Director will be responsible for refining and managing the organization’s budget and reporting systems, as well as operational policies and best practices. They will provide critical analysis for strategic planning and will constantly work to bridge JVP’s values and political priorities into budgetary and operational decisions. 

Many of JVP’s core finance and operations functions are outsourced to high quality experts (accounting/bookkeeping, human resources, IT, security, legal), and we have a talented team of 3 operations and finance staff coordinating and managing the in-house work of the departments. The director’s role is largely to maintain close communication with and high level oversight of the contractors to whom we outsource while investing deeply in the leadership, skills, and capacities of our staff. 

Financial Management -  45% 

  • Strategic Financial Planning, Forecasting, and Leadership 

    • Provide data-driven, insightful financial analysis and forecasting across our different organizations, including monitoring and reporting on KPIs, to aid in multi-year budgeting, strategic decision making, and fundraising planning 

    • Receive and review detailed monthly financial reports from accounting firm, and present regular updates to staff and board leadership

    • Support Management staff and Board of Directors in building understanding and capacity around forecasting and financial analysis, including reviewing financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis

  • High-level oversight of the day-to-day accounting functions of the organizations

    • Serve as liaison to an outsourced accounting firm, along with Senior Operations and Finance Manager.

    • Support the Senior Operations and Finance Manager in their responsibility for coordinating the annual audit and ensuring smooth, consistent AR/AP and payroll. 

    • Oversee monthly reconciliation between financial and fundraising systems 

    • Support Senior Operations and Finance Manager with their oversight of the chapter fiscal program.

  • Draft, maintain and administer multi-year budgeting process for JVP, JVP Action and JVP Action PAC

    • Monitor budget income and expenditures across departments and for all organizations, support and advise program leads on maintenance and management of program budgets

    • Lead projections, budget monitoring, forecasting, and budget revision processes

  • High level oversight of JVP’s Reporting, Audit and Compliance

    • Oversee financial relationship between c3, c4, and PAC entities, including activity thresholds as well as cost sharing and resource reimbursement between entities;  

    • Collaborate with the Finance Committee of the Board, the Executive Director, Senior Operations and Finance Manager, and accounting firm to develop the annual audit and tax filings.

    • Implement, maintain, and monitor financial and administrative controls necessary to safeguard all assets and to ensure the integrity of financial reporting. 

Operations Management - 35% 

  • Operational Leadership

    • Help set strategy and goals around organizational growth and infrastructure based on data and in relationship with other organizational goals. 

    • Manage the operations budget. 

    • Coordinate with directors across all departments to ensure administrative needs are met throughout the organization. 

    • Project manage and oversee infrastructure goals and changes regarding the affiliate nature of our Family of Organizations.

  • Ensure smooth logistics at in-person events

    • Bottom-line logistical coordination for annual staff retreat 

    • Lead operations staff and/or hired contract support in coordinating flawless logistics for in-person membership events and conferences  

  • Responsible for overseeing efficient, effective and compliant functioning of all JVP and JVPA systems

    • Ensure compliance with workers compensation, state registration, and all other state and federal compliance, working with Senior Operations and Finance Manager and compliance firms. 

  • Manage Organizational IT and Security 

  • Project manage IT service and security consultants and implement changes or update and enforce policies as needed. 

  • Liaise with board security committee 

Director & Organizational responsibilities - 20% 

  • Lead and support Operations and Finance Teams’ staff

    • Support individual members of the team to succeed and ensure the team as a whole works collaboratively and effectively together, including facilitation of regular meetings and retreats

    • Directly supervise and coach the Senior Finance and Operations Manager, whose duties include supervising 2 staff (both operations coordinators), overseeing administrative onboarding and offboarding for all employees; maintaining personnel files; benefits administration; monthly finance responsibilities; and project management of JVP/JVPA yearly audits. 

  • Participate bi-annually in grassroots fundraising campaigns alongside all board and staff  

  • Serve as a connector between different departments and work functions, helping to increase communication and efficiencies

  • Attend meetings of senior staff leadership, regular staff meetings, and board finance committee meetings 

  • Embody a vision of Operations and Finance work as core to Palestinian liberation work.

  • Experience with and expertise in administering finances for nonprofit organizations, both C3 and C4

    • Successful track record of progressive responsibility in accounting and financial management, including drafting and managing an annual operating budget greater than $4M 

    • Skilled at creating or utilizing financial models and analysis for complex organizations, preference for experience with C4s

  • Excellent communicator

    • Ability to analyze and communicate financial data to others who may be lacking a finance background.

    • Effective oral and written communications skills, including writing comprehensive reports and insightful presentations to management and the Board of Directors.

    • Can teach operations skills to others

  • Political alignment

Travel Requirements: At this time, travel is voluntary and infrequent for vaccinated employees. If and when we return to regular travel, we believe the travel requirements for this position would be 2-3 times per year to events that they will or may need to travel to such as staff retreats, conferences, donor meetings, etc.
