Some of your typical daily tasks may include...

Note: For all tasks, Associate Advisors receive close supervision, guidance, and support. This is true as well for Advisors, though more experience with these types of tasks is expected upon starting the role.

What makes a great Advisor/Associate Advisor at BIT?

We are looking for people who understand what we do, share our values, and are keen to learn and develop their expertise. We are looking for candidates with the skills listed below. We expect to provide training and development support in some of these areas, so you do not need to have all these characteristics to be hired.

  • Behavioural science: You understand and can explain and apply central concepts (e.g., defaults, loss aversion, and social norms)

  • Public policy: You can see both sides of an argument, and you think about what makes some policies, programs and services effective and others impractical.

  • Evaluation: You have a solid baseline understanding of causal research, statistical inference and/or program evaluation. You can develop or contribute to the design of randomized controlled trials and other types of evaluation.

  • Clear and effective communications. You can explain complex topics in simple terms, both orally and in writing.

  • Managing and developing yourself at work. You demonstrate high self-awareness and regularly self-reflect. You are aware of the impact that your actions and words have on those around you. You are resilient and accept responsibility for decisions whether they achieve the desired outcome or not.

  • Work habits and project management. You can manage your own time to produce high quality work within a defined timeline and budget.

  • Supporting and developing others. You are supportive and energize people to perform at their best. You care about the success, development and wellbeing of others and can have meaningful (and sometimes difficult!) conversations.

  • Curiosity, comfort with ambiguity, commitment to social impact. You have wide interests and a willingness to take on a broad range of projects and project tasks. You are comfortable working for a small, new organization (BIT Canada) and have a relatively high tolerance for ambiguity / change. You are dedicated to achieving social impact through your work.

  • Professional fluency in French and/or Spanish is a plus.

Who are we and what can we offer you?

The Behavioural Insights Team is the world leader in applying behavioural science to public policy challenges in order to strengthen communities and improve lives.  We believe that if you understand how people make decisions in the real world, you can design and deliver better policies and services.

This belief means that we draw on the lessons from the behavioural sciences to design creative and scalable solutions in fields ranging from public health to employment services. We are also committed to using and generating evidence, so we test our interventions using techniques like randomized controlled trials (RCTs) before they are scaled.

We are looking for a passionate and imaginative individual who understands behavioural science and shares our thirst for evidence-based solutions to join our team.

How to apply

We use a great platform called Applied to reduce bias in the recruitment process. You will need to answer a few work-based questions which will be anonymously marked by members of our team. Our selection is based on performance in these questions, rather than looking at your CV.

Candidates with the top-scoring answers will be invited to a structured interview where you get to meet some of the team. At the interview stage, you will be asked questions that reflect the role and also to complete a work-based task, so you have the chance to demonstrate your skills. It’s at this stage we first see your CV. We always give all applicants feedback, no matter what stage your application reaches.
