Want to be at the forefront of one of the biggest growth areas in the insurance industry?

We’re looking for a Policy Adviser to join our General Insurance team for a a 6 - 12 month maternity cover contract starting in Feb 2022. You’ll lead on policy work for cyber insurance, work on the ABI’s engagement with the Lloyd’s and London Markets, and oversee the development of more specialist insurance products (including trade credit, terrorism, professional indemnity, medical malpractice and pet insurance).

Please note this is full time role but we are open to applications from those who wish to work on a flexible and/or job share basis. We welcome applicants who are new to insurance – as well as those who are experts.

What’s the job?

  • Advance and monitor the changing public policy issues that emerge as the UK cyber insurance market grows and develops, bringing increased political and regulatory attention.

  • Promote key policy positions, research and proposed solutions to make the cyber insurance market work more effectively.

  • Develop an effective industry response, both proactively and reactively, to reputational challenges facing the cyber insurance market.

  • Develop and lead the ABI’s policy work on trade credit, terrorism, professional indemnity, events, medical malpractice insurance products.

  • React to developments in Government policy or the media that may impact your policy areas and help insurers navigate these issues effectively.

  • Engage with key external stakeholders including Lloyd’s of London, the Lloyd’s Market Association, the London Market Group and the International Underwriting Association. 

  • Develop expertise on insurance innovation including InsurTech, digital transformation and the ‘internet of things’.

The role is based at the ABI in London.  However, some travel both within the UK and Europe may occasionally be required.

What skills do you need?

  • Experience dealing with complex and emerging policy issues – you can get up to speed quickly with the technical detail.

  • An analytical mind – you use evidence to back up your decisions.

  • Excellent relationship management skills – you know how to approach stakeholders of all levels and backgrounds.

  • Demonstrable lobbying skills – you can influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere.

  • Effective presentation skills – you know how to tailor you message to your audience.
