Job Description

The Distribution Team Leader position will be responsible for managing and supervising the Distribution Centre.  Reporting to the Shift Managers and liaising with fellow team leaders to ensure that work is completed on time and in the most cost effective manner whilst ensuring all team members are working in a safe environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitor pick performance to ensure accurate and efficient pick levels are achieved  through voice/paper pick and where necessary implement corrective action plans.  Ensure voice picking system is fully operational and effectively utilised.

  • Ensure accurate and efficient achievement of all packing KPI’s across the shift in accordance with customer requirements and daily pack schedules.

  • Ensure all replenishment is accurately and effectively achieved within the shift and that activity is in line with requirements.

  • Ensure the efficient flow of work to maximise sorter utilisation and throughput to achieve KPI’s.

  • Ensure all deliveries and goods received are efficiently and effectively processed, correctly receipted and booked into the system

  • Ensure daily schedule is adhered to and corrective action plans are implemented where necessary.

  • Ensure that the appropriate truck resources are ready and available for safe and efficient use across the shift

  • Control and ensure the safe loading of picked pallets within the dispatch area and in conjunction with transport, ensure the load schedule is achieved to fully meet the dispatch schedule.

  • Ensure maximum accuracy for every customer order within the area of responsibility is fully executed.  Immediately notify Shift Managers of any potential fails or shortages, agree and implement corrective action plans.

  • Ensure that all administrative duties are completed on a daily basis i.e. absence reporting, shift handover

  • Actively participate in achieving departmental/site KPI’s.

  • Ensure that all Team Members are fully trained to carry out their duties safely, efficiently and to a high standard of quality, actively promoting ISO standards.

  • Frequently ‘walk the floor’ to ensure housekeeping and health and safety standards are being maintained

  • With the assistance of HR and Occupational Health as required, take appropriate corrective action where the appropriate standards are not being achieved, ensuring a consistent approach to all team members.  

  • Responsible for informal resolution of grievances and for disciplinary action up to and including a written warning.

  • Proactively provide training, mentoring and support for all team members to ensure the highest possible standards

  • Understand both company and statutory Health and Safety requirements and ensure these are achieved within the DC areas.  

  • Actively promote safe systems of work and take personal responsibility for H&S improvements.

  • Encourage team building and constructive input from team members in improvement activities and the development of an open culture of continuous improvement.

  • Effectively communicate on a daily basis what is expected from the team and ensure targets are met (Department KPI’s)

  • Know, understand and adhere to ISO standards.

  • Actively promote ISO compliance to all Warehouse Operatives and ensure compliance in all relevant areas.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experienced Team Leader or Equivalent

  • Previous experience in Distribution, logistics or FMCG

  • Experience in Managing People

  •  Previous experience of dealing with unions

  • Experience of working to demanding deadlines

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to solve problems

  • Good attention to detail

  • Results focussed and can work to strict deadlines

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Be flexible and adaptable in approach to work routines
