Summary of Role

We are looking for a Director to lead our GHG Scope 1-2-3 emissions accounting and reporting services team, which supports Anthesis’ global offerings by bringing innovative sustainability solutions to clients. You will be leading a dedicated team taking full accountability for creating and implementing our existing GHG Scope 1-2-3 emissions accounting and reporting services, tools and software solutions, in close collaboration with, and reporting to the Net Zero & Climate Solutions Lead and Operations Lead, as well as counterparts in other Anthesis regions. Your projects and clients will span across a diverse set of industries, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to boutique brands, and require engagement with clients, their suppliers, and their various stakeholders (employees, investors, associations and NGOs) around the world with a focus on helping these clients build the foundation for their decarbonization strategies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on high impact consulting projects across areas our portfolio of Net Zero & Climate Solutions services, including energy; carbon management; greenhouse gas inventory; environmental justice; sustainability reporting; stakeholder engagement; net zero, science based targets, carbon removals; project management; climate change; climate adaptation; carbon emissions modeling; water; waste; and renewable energy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Anthesis North America’s GHG Scope 1-2-3 emissions accounting and reporting services and related product development solutions. 

  • Take the lead in the development of proposals and new business for GHG Scope 1-2-3 emissions accounting and reporting services, and support team members with implementation of these projects, as well as lead their technical review.

  • Develop proposals with client managers and generate your own leads with new and existing clients, actively contributing to the business development activities of the global business.

  • Support the development of Anthesis North America’s thought leadership and marketing materials in relation to GHG Scope 1-2-3 emissions accounting and reporting.

  • As a senior subject matter expert, provide supervision, guidance and technical leadership to clients as well as colleagues on leading practices, standards, trends, incorporating this knowledge into consulting projects, proposals and the evolution of new services related to Science-based Targets setting and Net Zero roadmaps for clients that meet or exceed their needs.

  • Manage and supervise large, complex and dynamic consulting projects throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, QA and closure.

  • Lead and directly manage teams across practices and geographies, including selecting and managing teams in service of client projects.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting build-out of team

  • Performing line management responsibilities vis-à-vis your team members, including (but not limited to) regular check-ins with team members, performance reviews and goal setting with team members, providing regular, constructive feedback on performance, and generally supporting team members with career path development guidance.

  • Responsible for financial, operational and strategic success for relevant aspects of the service line, working closely with the Solution Operations Leader and related internal support resources as appropriate.

  • Maintain existing, as well as build and support new relationships with other sustainability consultants, NGOs, regulatory entities, software vendors and related ecosystem product/service partners.

Key Requirements

  • 12+ years’ experience as a sustainability/carbon/climate practitioner, ideally in a consultancy environment, and/or related corporate or NGO roles with a demonstrated technical track record in GHG emissions accounting and reporting

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally at a Master’s level or higher, in a sustainability-related field in Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Economics, Mathematics or other sustainability-related disciplines.

  • Ability to lead qualitative and quantitative analysis, as well as guide our team’s use or development of software tools (from Microsoft Excel to Enterprise 3rd Party) related to GHG Scope 1-2-3 emissions accounting and reporting, and related topics including decarbonization and net zero strategy, modeling and analysis around carbon impact, carbon pricing, carbon abatement curves, price forecasting, and project cash flows.

  • Ability to work at and navigate all levels of an organization, driving decisions and direction through influence, including executive and senior business stakeholders.

  • Highly organized with strong project management skills, interpersonal skills, and a professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise.

  • Demonstrated experience and deep working knowledge of the GHG Protocol and related GHGP Standards (e.g. Scope 2 Standard, Product Standard, Scope 3 Standard, ICT Sector supplement, etc.) as well as emerging accounting, reporting and target setting standards from the Science-based Target Initiative, WRI, CDP, The Climate Group (RE100, EV100), etc.

  • Competency at building relationships across functions within client organizations to enable opportunities for improvement and expanding our scope of services.

  • Industry-relevant connections, with a network of potential clients, collaborators and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience providing GHG emissions accounting and reporting services support and topics in some or all of the following:

o   Strategy development, strategic goal setting and KPI selection on priority climate-related topics (e.g. Science-based Targets)

o   SBTI’s Forest Land and Agriculture (FLAG) emerging standard

o   EEIO Spend-based emissions methodologies

o   Fuel and Energy Related Activities emissions accounting

o   Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Radiative Forcing

o   Work-from-Home/ Employee Commute emissions accounting methodologies

o   Biogenic Carbon Accounting

o   Use of Sold Products and Use-Phase methodologies

o   Climate/ Sustainability-related reporting using leading frameworks e.g., CDP, GRI, SASB, Integrated Reporting and TCFD
