Job Description

Hilton UK & Ireland Graduate Scheme Management Development Programme (Hotel Operations)

Want a challenge like no other? One where you have team and business responsibility and accountability from the minute you start? A challenge where you are expected to grasp our processes quickly, and make a real difference to the hotel operation?
The program which Hilton in the UK & Ireland is offering is a fantastic opportunity for recent graduates or soon to be graduates to fast track their career into a management position within 18 months in Food and Beverage and Front Office. The main focus of the program is to develop Operational Heads of Departments - therefore we empathise on the fact that candidates do have to have a real passion for both, Food and Beverage and Front Office and are fully mobile across the UK&I.

What is the aim of the programme?

The UK&I Management development programme aims to develop a select group of talented, nationally mobile individuals and give them an intensive development opportunity to be running their own Food and Beverage or Front Office department within 18 months. With a strong focus towards Food and Beverage and Rooms Division, when you join the programme you will immediately start at a supervisory level, taking on the responsibilities, accountability and challenges that go with the specific position. It's not a slow-paced role, or a slow-paced industry you're joining, but we ensure that you'll be supported throughout; enabling you to be ready for your first line management position in one of our operational departments once the programme is completed.

However, we don't want you stay at one hotel for the duration of the programme when there's a wealth of experience to be shared, utilised and gained within the UK & Ireland Hilton portfolio, this can include England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. Your first placement (9 months) on the programme will be at one hotel, most certainly away from where you live/studied, and your 2nd placement (9 months) means a new hotel and is likely to be in a whole new area of the country again. The placements will be allocated after the acceptance of the programme, therefore an open mind and flexibility is a key criteria to being successful when joining this graduate scheme.

Structured Learning & Development

The programme runs over 18 months with a structured framework of practical and highly interactive learning and development activities. These include:

2-day induction to the programme, the wider business, Hilton Worldwide history, culture and current business focus in addition to the below Framework:

  • Food and Beverage placement

  • Rooms Division placement

  • Personal mentor with regular feedback

  • Weekly peer group interactions

  • Regular and structured line manager feedback

  • Management and leadership development modules

  • Technical development modules

  • Practical business assignment aligned to both Food & Beverage placements

  • Hilton Worldwide online modules ( online learning opportunity)

If you are successful you must be available to start the programme in September 2019.

Mobility is an extremely important factor as you will be working in at least 2 different locations during the programme, potentially anywhere in the UK & Ireland.

Participant commitment

You'll be keen to learn your craft on the job, while putting relevant learning into practice. Your role and responsibilities will evolve as your confidence and capabilities grow, taking you to different departments and hotels, not to mention the fact that we are a 24 hour business! This means you have to be driven and flexible!

What are the learning benefits?

Our graduate programme will give you a fast track to a permanent position on successful completion, dependent on your skills and size of the property.

The blended learning approach allows you to benefit from experiential learning, with structured time for reflection on your own personal development, with the support of an operational mentor, who has been where you are now. You will be one of a select number of graduates, ensuring you are noticed and will form part of our Talent Management process.

During the programme we will support you to build a challenging and tailored personal development plan.
