Job Description

Childnet is a child online safety charity with a mission to work in partnership with others around the world to help make the internet a great and safe place for children.

We are looking for a creative and innovative Communications and Marketing Officer to support the implementation of our communication strategy, increase awareness of our charity among our key audiences, and deliver informative, influential and engaging marketing outputs. The successful candidate will have the exciting opportunity to play a key role in Safer Internet Day, a campaign that reaches millions of children across the UK.

Working closely with the Deputy CEO and Communications and Marketing team, you will deliver a range of activities to ensure Childnet and the UK Safer Internet Centre are seen as global centres of excellence. You will work to raise awareness of Childnet’s exciting programmes for schools including the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme, our education sessions in schools, and our advice and guidance online.

This role would suit an enthusiastic team player who is passionate about making a positive difference for children and young people online. They will have excellent communications skills, strong digital skills and the ability to learn new skills quickly. They will need to be confident supporting our social media channels and using a range of online tools for web editing, database management, analytics and content creation. They will be able to juggle very different tasks, use initiative, think creatively, and address challenges flexibly and purposefully, and have a proven ability to prioritise a wide range of commitments and work to tight deadlines.

At Childnet we pride ourselves on the collaborative and positive approach we take to tackling a broad range of online safety issues, alongside our commitment to empower young people and champion youth voice. This role offers exciting opportunities to work closely with the internet industry, charities and international organisations. Childnet works with schools across the UK, helping to deliver exciting youth-led events, all whilst being at the forefront of delivering inclusive online safety education.

This role is part of the small, high performing Communications and Marketing Team at Childnet. This team runs the social media accounts for both the UK Safer Internet Centre and Childnet which have 69k and 59k followers on Twitter respectively. The campaigns run by this team have been extremely successful,  trending at number one in the UK on social media, seeing over 126 media mentions in one campaign, and gaining attention from high profile accounts such as James McVey and The Pope.
