About the role
This is a new role to support our rapid growth by providing best practice management of all our IT services. The IT Systems Admin is a member of a small Operations Team supporting our campaign teams and specialists across the globe to solve the climate crisis.
Our IT environment is designed to be secure, easy to maintain and readily available from any location. We have Apple laptops and rely on standard tools configured appropriately to support our teams to work effectively and securely to achieve the Sunrise mission.
You’ll need to enjoy helping our staff solve problems and get the best out of our IT services as well as pro-actively identifying ways to streamline our work and improve the security and resilience of our IT environment.
Initially we expect this role to be around 3 days per week but likely that it will grow as the number of staff increases.
Key responsibilities & tasks
1. Provide excellent service to our teams to support them in their work. Examples of activities include:
as the expert in all our standard end-user applications and tools, provide orientation and on-going education, trouble-shoot for the team, share best-practice tips and create “cheat-sheets” on how to use the tools most effectively and securely
provide support with specific information management tasks such as identification and removal of obsolete documents, migration to secure storage, implementation of new services
run regular reports and user access checks
identify and implement improvements to our end-user IT environment in consultation with other key staff including equipment and software research and acquisition
2. Keep our IT environment secure, resilient and in line with best practice. This includes:
IT risk management, including planning, implementing and monitoring security measures across the environment and managing response to security incidents
providing IT support such as password resets, equipment issues, hardware and software set-up for new staff, including remote support through TeamViewer
optimising our IT tools, services and processes including identification of the need for new IT services and ensuring secure, seamless deployment
3. Purchase, install, configure and administer new hardware and software including organisation-wide policies and settings. Manage upgrades, including websites.
4. Access management for end-user and IT tools
5. Develop and maintain technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
Key skills & experience
Service orientation
High level technical competency (see below)
At least 5 years’ experience in IT Operations
Proven analytical skills and ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to engage helpfully with end users
Demonstrated understanding of IT risk management in a high-security context
Understanding and interest in new technologies and trends
Ability to self-manage to deadlines and with competing priorities
Interest in climate justice and achieving The Sunrise Project mission
Core technical competencies
G-suite admin
Admin of access controls, including SSO
Security threat analysis and mitigation
Providing end-user support using remote access tools
Admin and best practice for cloud-based information management & collaboration software
Apple-based MDM solutions (Jamf currently in use)
Admin and maintenance of Wordpress websites
