Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the marketing team within HarperFiction to manage integrated and innovative campaigns across a range of the leading names in fiction. The successful candidate will be a senior voice in the Fiction Marketing team, bringing their knowledge of the market and prior marketing experience to produce outstanding campaigns that will deliver consumer cut-through, drive sales across all formats and build upon the author’s profile.
HarperFiction is home to two of the UK’s most successful publishing estates in Agatha Christie and J. R.R. Tolkien, as well as to some of the UK’s biggest brands in George R. R. Martin, Cecelia Ahern, Karin Slaughter, Jeffrey Archer and to chart-topping debuts in Girl A, The Maid and How to Kill Your Family, amongst others. HarperCollins UK in turn is part of a global business within HarperCollins Worldwide and News Corp.
Key Accountabilities
Developing long-term strategy for the Tolkien publishing estate and some of our biggest brands on the list, including George R R Martin, whilst delivering the strategy for debut voices that we are looking to break out into the market
Leading the strategy for Adult and YA SFF focused imprints Voyager and Magpie
Delivering strategic and creative campaigns for key releases and authors across the division
Developing innovative, creative and targeted marketing activity including all planning, briefing and delivery – from pre-awareness through to launch and beyond
Striving for innovation across all channels to produce market leading campaigns that will create cut-through and deliver on sales targets
Ensuring that delivery of all creative, media, and digital plans are on brief and in budget.
Ensuring all marketing campaigns are implemented to optimum efficiency with demonstrable metrics
Measuring and evaluating campaigns, share learnings and optimising for future activity
Working alongside the consumer insight team to understand readerships and inform target audiences
Working with brand and media partners to leverage reader interest and expand our consumer reach
Supporting a culture of collaboration and integration, working closely with Publicity, Sales and Editorial to ensure that all stakeholder needs are met
Working with multiple external stakeholders (both UK and International) and managing sign offs (including embargos) with sensitivity
Developing strong agency, media and blogger relationships to help maximise all communications opportunities and activity
Management of one or two more junior members of the team
Supporting the Fiction Marketing Director in finding innovative ways increasing profit within the divisions, through both frontlist and backlist along with exploring new commercial opportunities.

Experience
Good experience working in a busy marketing department, experience at a trade publisher preferable
Comfortable across all channels of the marketing mix

Ability to amplify creative thinking across various media disciplines
Brand management experience desirable
We are looking for someone who:
Has an active interest in the latest marketing trends and campaigns from across the book industry as well as the wider entertainment and media sector
Enjoys reading widely with an active interest in the publishing industry – particular interest in science fiction and fantasy fiction, as well as crime and thriller, romance, and literary fiction
Is a team-player, looking to share their learnings with the wider marketing team in order to foster a culture of shared learning and who is also comfortable coaching more junior members of the team in addition to management responsibility
