Associate Director – Renewables, Net Zero & Climate Solutions

Summary of the Role

We are looking for an Associate Director to lead our Renewables services team, which supports Anthesis’ global offerings by bringing innovative Net Zero & Climate solutions to clients. You will be leading a growing team taking full accountability for expanding and implementing our existing Renewables services and partner solutions, in close collaboration with, and reporting to the Net Zero & Climate Solutions Lead and Operations Lead, as well as coordinating with counterparts in other Anthesis regions. Your role will be client-facing and focus on the supporting our clients to develop innovative renewable energy strategies and programs that deliver measurable impact and carbon emissions reductions in their operations and across their value chain. As a service lead within the Net Zero & Climate solution, your vision and leadership will help to shape the future of Anthesis’ position on renewables.

 

Your projects and clients will span across a diverse set of industries, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to boutique brands, and require engagement with clients and their suppliers around the world. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work on high impact consulting projects across areas our portfolio of Net Zero & Climate Solutions services, including energy; carbon management; greenhouse gas inventory; environmental justice; sustainability reporting; stakeholder engagement; net zero, science based targets, carbon removals; project management; climate change; climate adaptation; carbon emissions modeling; water; waste; and renewable energy. Our ideal candidate will be someone who can blend the technical elements and complexity of renewable energy programs with a strategic approach at the leading edge of climate action.

 

 Key Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in delivering carbon management projects, either in-house or in a consultancy environment, and specifically renewable energy development, transaction or advisory experience strongly preferred.

  • Substantive knowledge of energy market conditions in North America, corporate renewable energy procurement, and renewable energy development/ financing fundamentals (e.g. Strong understanding of EACs, Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs), green utility tariffs and consulting services related to climate at-large.

  • Ability and desire to manage and supervise large, complex and dynamic consulting projects throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, QA and closure.

  • Demonstrated experience in relevant scope 1-2-3 accounting, reporting and target setting standards, especially GHG Protocol and SBTi.

  • Ability to model cost implications of carbon reduction strategies over near and long-time horizons (e.g. 2050) independently or working with analytics tools or resources.

  • A desire and passion to assist large global clients with achieving carbon reduction and/or renewable energy goals. 

  • Project management experience, medium and high value tactical and strategic transactional experience desired (e.g. experience in supplier and RFP/ offer tender management for renewable energy, technology and market instrument-type agnostic).

  • Experience with web-based software as a service (SaaS).

  • Professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise.

  • Strong communication and consulting skills.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills. Ability to respond positively to pressure and take a flexible approach to a dynamic, fast moving and changing work environment.

  • Able to work on virtual teams across different time zones.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Anthesis North America’s Renewables services, taking the lead in the development of proposals and new business and support team members with implementation of these projects, as well as lead their technical review.

  • Develop proposals with client managers and generate your own leads with new and existing clients, actively contributing to the business development activities of the global business.

  • Support the development of Anthesis North America’s thought leadership and marketing materials in relation to Renewables and more broadly Net Zero & Climate solutions services.

  • As a subject matter expert, provide supervision, guidance and technical leadership to clients as well as colleagues on leading practices, standards, trends, policy developments, incorporating this knowledge into consulting projects, proposals and the evolution of new services related that meet or exceed their needs.

  • Identify, address and respond to client challenges related to corporate carbon management by designing renewable energy strategies that consider, on-site and off-site renewable generation, supporting clients through offer solicitation, analysis, negotiation, and final implementation.

  • Provide guidance, solicitation, analysis, and support clients during contract negotiation for renewable energy purchases in accordance with their goals and strategies, market conditions and best practices.

  • Maintain existing, as well as build and support new relationships with other sustainability consultants, NGOs, regulatory entities, software vendors and related ecosystem product/service partners.

  • Actively demonstrate thought leadership through, for example, presenting on webinars and participating in leading forums.

  • Maintain and expand Anthesis’ existing partner strategy for supporting renewable energy transactions, identifying and prioritizing partner opportunities using your network, research and other sources and serve as an interface and relationship liaison with external renewable energy developers, climate tech, and carbon solution vendor community.

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, supporting build-out of team and line management.

  • Responsible for financial, operational and strategic success for relevant aspects of the service line, working closely with the Solution Operations Leader and related internal support resources as appropriate.
