As the fastest growing area of our business, PUBLIC’s Transformation Unit provides advisory and consulting support to public bodies seeking to innovate and deliver better services using technology. Drawing on the knowledge, networks and technology capability of PUBLIC, Transformation sets out to help public bodies enact the digital transformation activities we champion. We do this across projects to: define digital strategy; build innovation and ‘intraprenuerial’ capability; crowd-in startup-led innovation; and, source and scale the latest technology solutions. 

The role

We are seeking User Researchers to join our growing team to work on early stage innovation projects both with government clients and within internal venture building activity. User Researchers will play a critical role to help PUBLIC assess the needs of government and citizens for new technology, identify best-in-class innovative solutions, and analyse the impact they could achieve.

As an Associate position within our wider business, User Researchers will also play a role in leveraging insights from client work across PUBLIC’s wider portfolio of ventures, accelerator activities and programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary and secondary user research projects, from the planning stage through to implementation.

  • Conduct and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research.

  • Turn research data into clear findings that can inform decision making.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and evaluate research topics.

  • Assessing policy and regulatory environments within government settings.

  • Performing market and product research to identify technology solutions to organisational problems.

  • Undertaking cost-benefit analysis, using data and evidence to assess the impact of new solutions

  • Confer key project learnings into actionable insights that can support the growth of our research, ventures and investment activity 

  • Contribute to the wider work of PUBLIC, including research, our accelerator programme “GovStart” and the annual GovTech Summit 

What we are looking for:

  • Experience conducting market or user research, and gathering qualitative and quantitative evidence 

  • Strong written and verbal communication, with experience publishing or presenting work to external audiences 

  • Interest in, and knowledge of, emerging uses for technology in the public sector 

  • A self-starter, who can manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Microsoft Office and G-Suite tools 

  • A team player, who can collaborate across a diverse organisation.

Desirable qualities:

  • Experience working in healthcare/healthtech or online safety sectors.

  • Strong understanding of AI and data technology solutions, gained within a data-focused environment

  • 1+ years working in client-facing roles in digital, research or consulting organisations

  • Experience working with the public sector.
