Job Description

Are you a driven, organised and analytical individual with a wide knowledge and understanding of the challenges within education and education technology? Looking for an exciting and rewarding new challenge?

If so, Nesta is looking for an Assistant Programme Manager to join our Education team within Innovation Programmes, where you will play a key role in delivering our flagship edtech innovation programme.

About Nesta and Innovation Programmes

Nesta is a global innovation foundation. We back new ideas to tackle the big challenges of our time. Our mission is to spark and shape new ideas that improve how the world works for everyone. We use our knowledge, networks, funding and skills - working in partnership with others, including governments, businesses and charities. We are a UK charity but work all over the world, supported by a financial endowment.

Through its Innovation Programmes team, Nesta provides financial and practical support to help hundreds of innovators each year across the UK that are developing ideas to solve big social challenges. Central to the work Innovation Programmes does is the launch of a new edtech innovation fund being delivered in partnership with the Department of Education, which will support schools, colleges and technology organisations to tackle key challenges in education and help to build the evidence base for what works.

About this key role

As part of a small team delivering this project, our successful candidate will be tasked with coordinating back office systems to find, assess and award grants to innovative edtech products with high potential, plus manage a portfolio of innovations given prototyping grants. This will include setting up grant awards, monitoring and reporting on progress and providing proactive advice. You will also be expected to:

  • Work with research and evaluation partners to find evidence about how edtech can tackle key challenges

  • Be the first port of call for enquiries about the programme from potential applicants and collaborators

  • Curate and organise events to connect with academics, educators and technology producers

  • Work with the wider education team and partners to design new programme activities and on-going strategies to develop our profile and impact

What we are looking for

A natural collaborator, with a history of working alongside different stakeholders to deliver projects, you will have strong project management and organisational skills with experience of managing budgets and suppliers. You will also have experience of identifying and communicating learning and insights from projects and a demonstrable understanding of a range of different research methods.

Experience at designing and organising events and workshops is also vital, as are excellent administration, prioritisation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
