Job Description

OVERVIEW

We are looking for someone to support our award-winning environmental charity by designing and embedding brilliant systems that complement our culture and create strong foundations for our growth.

Hubbub has grown from a team of three in 2014 to a 50-strong organisation today. We work with some of the UK’s top charitable funders, as well as some of its best-known companies, from Tesco to BT. Our positive, innovative, impactful work saw us named ‘Charity of the Year’ at the Charity Times Awards in 2020. It reflected the difference we have made with campaigns ranging from the Community Fridge Network, which distributes millions of meals’ worth of surplus food each year, to a £1m grant fund for innovative projects tackling plastic pollution.

We’re proud of our nimble, entrepreneurial culture and have grown fast with light-touch operational support. Now we are looking for a dedicated Operations Manager to take ownership of a range of critical areas and to make sure that our systems and processes are designed to support the team and our ways of working.

This role might suit you if:

• You’re brilliant with people: communicating new ideas and getting people on board is second nature to you.

• You love solving problems and aren’t put off by a few setbacks.

• You’re obsessed with process improvement, and love to see things run smoothly.

• You’re curious. You explore new ways of working, new software, new trends, and think about how to apply them to your work.

• You believe that the best systems feel almost invisible.

• You’re aligned with our values (see below)

• You are passionate about the environment and sustainability.

• You love to work as part of a team, and pride yourself on your listening skills.

• Your attention to detail is second to none. Or should that be ‘second-to-none’?

THE ROLE

You’ll be the first Operations Manager, and will play a big part in defining the scope of the role. You’ll work closely with the Directors and other senior colleagues, and will support the Governance Committee too.

The key functions of this role are:

OPERATIONS

Designing, running and evolving our systems to enable us to have maximum impact. For example, working with the delivery teams to manage project resourcing and solve capacity issues. Creating the best working environment for our team, whether in our Somerset House offices or elsewhere. Mapping and navigating Hubbub’s path to net zero, and ensuring successful B Corp reaccreditation of our trading subsidiary, Hubbub Enterprise.

PEOPLE & BOARD COORDINATION

Ensuring smooth processes around recruitment, contracts, appraisals, promotions, inductions, leavers and exit interviews. Working with our training partner to make the most of their support, and managing our employee benefits. Ensuring successful board meetings, and keeping all our registrations up to date.

RISK & SYSTEMS

IT & Cybersecurity: managing relationship with external IT support. Seeking improvements and value for money. Ensuring appropriate levels of cybersecurity: from insurance to software to making sure all members of the team have up-to-date training and clear policies are in place.

Policy & Information Management: Maintaining, updating and occasionally adding to our policies; ensuring key organisational information is easily found, and supporting the team to find the information they need. Taking responsibility for our data, including GDPR compliance.

BENEFITS

• 25 days per year holiday allowance, plus bank holidays and extended Christmas break (with full pay).

• Ongoing professional development through our training partner, You Can Now

• 5% employer pension contribution

• Yoga and HIIT classes, and more

• Office at Somerset House with resident discounts and perks

• Flexible working. Our policy is still TBD but will entail a mix of WFH and time in the office. As Operations Manager we will expect you to be at the heart of what we do, and that will mean being in the office regularly. This means the role is unlikely to work well for candidates not based within easy reach of central London.
