Bethnal Green Ventures

Location London, UK with flexible arrangements possible
Salary 25,000
  • Closing: 12:09pm, 19th Oct 2020 BST

Job Description

Bethnal Green Ventures is Europe’s leading early-stage tech for good VC. We back ambitious founders using technology to tackle big social and environmental problems that aim to radically improve millions of lives. BGV has unrivalled experience and track record investing in and scaling tech for good businesses, generating top-tier returns for investors, as well as significant and measurable impact.

You will work with our team to deliver our BGV Spring and Autumn 2021 programmes. You’ll be the ‘go-to person’ on the programme, acting as the first point of contact for the startups. You will build strong relationships with the startups and will help to tailor the programme so that it meets their aims and goals.

You’ll work closely with the BGV programme lead and you’ll be responsible for the smooth running of both programmes, in particular:

  • You’ll be dedicated to making sure the startups have an exceptional programme experience. You’ll help us to deliver an exceptional service to startups by developing a deep understanding of their needs and challenges. You’ll use your initiative to spot when problems could potentially arise, and take leadership for troubleshooting any issues.

  • You’ll manage the overall logistics of the programmes, including calendar management, workshop and speaker liaison, event management and catering.

  • You’ll host workshops and events during the programmes, which will involve introducing and facilitating workshops and peer-to-peer support sessions, and meeting and greeting speakers and mentors.

  • You’ll work directly with the startups, engaging with founders on a daily basis to better understand their support needs. You’ll take part in weekly office hours with each startup, and will help us to tailor the programme to meet the changing support needs of the founders taking part.

  • You’ll manage the overall logistics of programme selection, including getting familiar with the platform we use called Gust, managing reviewers and collecting scores, coordinating the interview process and helping to prepare and deliver internal selection meetings.

  • You’ll manage and curate the Portfolio community Slack channel, ensuring that useful resources are posted and connections are made regularly between teams in our portfolio.

  • You’ll help to manage the co-working space (COVID permitting), setting up workshops and ensuring that it’s a collaborative and productive environment for the startups.

Person specification:

  • Previous work experience in a fast paced environment - having worked with startups is a bonus

  • Someone with exceptional organisational skills, with experience of working to tight deadlines on multiple projects/tasks.

  • Strong communicator who is personable, calm and dependable

  • An individual that takes the initiative, and able to self manage

  • Have an affinity with BGV’s mission and values and be excited about the opportunity to work with socially motivated startups

  • Be team oriented, with a ‘can do’ and ‘hands on’ approach to helping out the wider BGV team wherever necessary

What we can offer:

  • Pay of £25,000 per year with a broad range of experiences working for one of the leading impact investors in Europe.

  • 25 days annual leave.

  • A great work environment and supportive team culture.

  • A learning and development budget to set you up for your personal growth and development, while gaining a broad overview of what goes on at Bethnal Green Ventures.

  • A fun place to work in London (COVID-permitting) and online.

  • The opportunity to build relationships with the tech for good community in London and beyond - be they impact investors, startups, policy makers or funders.

What we can’t offer you

  • We are a small team and we can’t promise you a permanent job with BGV at the end. However, this role is designed to give you exposure to all elements of our network, and we hope it will act as a stepping stone to working with one of our alumni startups, funders or investors.

The Associate role is due to run from January 11th 2021, however we are flexible on the start date.

We are committed to building a diverse community and want to increase opportunities for people from all walks of life to enter the VC and impact investing space. We fundamentally believe that diverse teams perform better, and talent is distributed in equal measure.

We are a proud BCorp, an Equal Opportunities and Living Wage employer, and strongly encourage people of colour, women, LGBTQIA individuals and people with disabilities and other underrepresented communities to apply to this role.
