Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To specialise in the use of GIS technology to maintain divisional data bases and associated information, and to provide this content in a timely and cost effective manner into product creation projects across all channels. You will adhere to editorial policy and guidelines to ensure that all content is up to date and high quaiity.

You will work closely with Information specialists and have a full understanding of the information acquisition and analysis function.

Responsibility

  • Edit GIS data to keep it up to date, add content or improve it’s structure

  • Extract data from GIS databases and supply to production teams in a timely manner and in the most appropriate format

  • Carry out specific development tasks within the GIS environment to ensure we make optimum use of the technology and our GIS data resources as directed by the Head of Geo Information

  • Process customer data and effectively support bespoke mapping projects

  • Ensure all GIS data adheres to editorial policy and standards.

  • Work with Information specialists to ensure best possible information sources are used to create and maintain content, and that where appropriate GIS is used to manage them

  • Provide effective technical support for data licensing / digital sales as directed by the Head of Geo Information

  • From time to time project manage internal and external resources to deliver specific technical projects

Person Specification

  • Degree or equivalent in GIS or other relevant Geotechnical discipline

  • Experience of the practical application of Geotechnical solutions

  • Experience of digital publishing technologies

  • Technical knowledge and experience of the ArcGIS product family

  • Ability to effectively lead GIS project teams when required

  • Good communicator

  • Organised and thorough

  • Logical thinker

  • Knowledge of document encoding systems, especially XML.

  • Practical knowledge of RDBMS, especially Oracle
