Trusts, Foundations and Institutions Lead

The Trusts, Foundations and Institutions Lead will head up the team and strategically drive new business from institutional partners and develop strategic new funding partnerships across Comic Relief, in line with our social change strategy and organisational priorities.

They will manage key relationships with existing partners including government, UN and multi-national bodies as well as major trusts and foundations.

Key Accountabilities / Objectives

  • Lead on developing Comic Relief’s strategy for partnerships with trusts, foundations and institutions (TFI) – including government, UN and multi-national bodies as well as major trusts and foundations

  • To be accountable for a fixed income amount of new business annually of £10 million - £20 million annually whether through grant income, contractual income, partnership or match giving alliance

  • Undertake and commission research into potential new institutional partners for Comic Relief both in relation to our events and our year round activities based on shared values and goals

  • Strategically drive new business and new partnerships across the department, in line with our social change strategy and organisational priorities. Lead on pitches and direct approaches for new institutional partners – both year round and campaign / venture specific.

  • To manage relationships with key partners, working with colleagues in Impact & Investment who are accountable for delivery of these objectives.

  • Proactively identify and negotiate partnerships with institutional funders including governments, United Nation bodies and major multi-national bodies that secure income impact or influence for Comic Relief’s agenda. This can include contractual income, grant income, partnership models or match funding alliances.

  • Lead in coordinating cross-organisational working groups required to meet the expectations and demands of partners as well as to achieve impact through these partnerships

  • To work cohesively with the Partnership Management Team to ensure there is a smooth transition of new relationships across the wider Commercial and Partnerships team

  • To proactively work with the Finance and Legal teams to ensure that all new partnerships have a strong contractual framework and have clarity on restricted and core funding being delivered.

  • Work closely with the wider partnerships team to identify new ultra-high net worth and high net worth individual’s prospects

Essential Skills

  • Significant experience in effectively leading and managing high performing trusts, foundations and institutional partnerships teams

  • Solid experience of working with major UK & global trusts, foundations and institutions with a good reputation to gain new business.

  • Solid experience of developing, implementing and evaluating strategies and plans which contribute to the organisation’s overall strategic aims on income and relationships

  • Proven experience of negotiating and managing multi-million, multi-faceted partnerships

  • A track record and experience of collaborating with government departments, global foundations and institutions to deliver income and shared social outcomes
