Job Description

The Senior Engineer, with support of the Engineering Practice Lead, helps embed processes, standards and practice for the development, delivery and operation of all digital products in a secure, scalable and operationally efficient manner.

Key responsibilities:

  • With the support of the Engineering Practice Lead help architect individual platforms and products.

  • Vertical Ownership of the whole software stack including support, monitoring and full operational responsibility, (including participating in 15X7 support rota during campaign and heightened activity periods).

  • Support the Engineering Practice Lead in defining and embedding all coding, architecture and infrastructure provision standards and processes.

  • Mentor more junior engineers and create a culture of operational excellence, quality first development and continuous improvement.

  • Actively engage in open source and technology communities and raise the profile of Comic Relief as a top tier software development organisation.

  • Work on other products and tools like our testing stack, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and help craft unique user centred digital experiences in an agile setting.

  • Act as a source of knowledge regarding the choice of approach for new projects and application development.

  • To lead, manage and support line report(s) through regular one-to-one’s and clear performance objectives and KPI’s.

  • Be an ambassador for collaborative Cross-functional working both within the Technology team and across the wider organisation.

Essential Education and Competencies:

  • 7+ years experience in software development with experience in some of the following: PHP, Drupal, Symfony, Zend, Javascript Frameworks, (React, Node, Angular), Javascript/Jquery, CSS/HMTL, API development, Continuous Integration (Travis, Jenkins, Concourse), cloud native application development, Continuous Delivery, Cloud infrastructure provision, PaaS, IaaS.

  • Skilled and adaptable communicator - able to flex style between coach, advisor, manager and challenger.

  • Collaborative worker – able to work closely with leadership and other teams.

  • Effective relationship builder with strong stakeholder management skills.  Outstanding solid software development/architecture skills - ability to design, develop and support secure, scalable and adaptable digital platforms and services.

  • Curious and creative thinker – to create a learning organisation committed to continuous improvement and always striving to do things better.
