The Runnymede Trust is on an exciting journey in both scale and impact. We continue to develop a growing portfolio of projects, supported by a groundswell of support for our work and a proactive relationship-based approach to seeking new funding opportunities. 

The Fundraising Manager is a new role, key to supporting this growth by ensuring that we continue to develop our income streams, expand our supporter networks and build our sustainability for the future.


The Fundraising Manager will lead across all our income-generating activities including trusts and foundations, individual giving and corporate fundraising.Working as part of a small team alongside the Partnerships and Programmes Manager, you’ll build on our recent fundraising success to develop and deliver successful plans to diversify and maximise our income as well as developing the tools, processes and internal expertise to ensure sustainability.


This is a key role in one of the UK’s leading think tanks on race and social justice, and has the potential to make an important and long term impact delivering genuine progress towards racial equality in Britain.

Responsibilities and main duties

  • Work closely with the CEO and Operations Director to develop and deliver the fundraising strategy that supports the charity’s aims and maximises income from a range of sources.

  • Proactively research and develop funding opportunities from trusts and foundations to support existing and new projects and our core work, developing a detailed opportunities database and pipeline and cultivating potential relationships.

  • Working with programme leads, initialise and develop projects, produce compelling funding proposals and grant applications, initiate prospect meetings, and confidently pitch to new funders in order to successfully convert prospects to donors.

  • Work closely with the Communications and Engagement teams to develop and deliver our individual giving approach, ensuring we expand our supporter base and that we develop our  supporter journeys to the highest standard.

  • Work alongside the Partnerships Manager to research and develop a pipeline of new corporate prospects, working them through from research to pitch and win.

  • Test and learn new fundraising approaches (such as events, high-value donors and legacy giving) to further grow and diversify our income streams.

  • Manage the development of our CRM (Beacon) in order to maintain accurate records of all fundraising activity, support excellent reporting to the senior team and trustees, and to develop a data led approach to future fundraising and stewardship.

  • Manage and monitor ongoing funder reporting, ensuring that effective records of grants/donations and their conditions are kept and strictly adhered to by project leads, and that interim and end of project reporting is completed to a high standard, liaising with project leads where appropriate.

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with funders, using a wide range of appropriate stewardship approaches to retain and develop their involvement with the Runnymede Trust.

  • Stay informed of existing and new fundraising legislation and  ensure all fundraising activities are compliant with the Code of Fundraising Practice and all other statutory obligations, maintaining and communicating internal policies as appropriate.

  • Actively instil an organisational culture of fundraising, ensuring that everyone in the organisation including our trustees, understands and contributes to our fundraising strategy.

  • Develop an excellent knowledge of our research, projects and policy work to tackle racial inequality in order to represent the Runnymede Trust authoritatively to supporters and external audiences.
