Job Description

The Head of Data & Analytics is a new role which is responsible all aspects of the strategy for, provision and analysis of data and analytics at Comic Relief, particularly leading the work to transform the organisation into a data- and insight-driven charity. 

The Head of Data & Analytics will lead a team of data engineers and data analysts to create a robust, complete and consistent data ecosystem and an insights-driven culture.  They will also take over ownership of the existing project to deliver improved data and analytics maturity for Comic Relief. 

In short, the successful candidate will lead the work to transform Comic Relief into the most audience-driven, insight-driven, data-driven charity – where all of our activities are guided by our audience and our social impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure availability of data and analytics systems & platforms as well as the accuracy, quality & completeness of data and analytics information.

  • Deliver the project to improve data and analytics maturity at Comic Relief.

  • Develop a data-driven culture across the organisation, putting in-place the people, mindset and behaviours whiach are vital to a successful data function.

  • Build and lead a motivated, highly effective data team

  • Deliver the hardware, software, data structures and integrations to meet the needs of the Data Analysts and other data stakeholders.

  • Provision of data and analytics to meet existing operational needs, resolving issues and  implementing / improving the relevant systems and processes where necessary.

  • Identify, define, and implement the processes, standards and governance required to fulfil data and analytics needs across all areas of the charity in an efficient and consistent way.

  • Build strong relationships with all data stakeholders, collaborating with them to define and implement the data strategy and initiatives to support organisational objectives.

  • Define the data, analytics and insight strategy for Comic Relief together with a roadmap shoing how the strategy will be realised.

  • Day-to-day responsibility for Information Security issues and compliance for the Technology Team, Data Analysts and Comic Relief as a whole.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Proven ability to deliver a data transformation programme and to lead a data team in effective delivery of data systems, structures, governance, and analytics in a challenging business environment, and ideally in the not for profit sector

  • Strong technical understanding, skilled in the use of databases / data structures, reporting, analytics and marketing tools; able to communicate effectively with Engineers, Analysts and business stakeholders..

  • Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation.

  • Detailed knowledge of the contemporary data and analytics landscape and how to apply new / emerging approaches to raise awareness, engagement and income, build successful relationships and maximise the impact of our investments

  • Ability to identify opportunity / innovation spaces and develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate and progress new products using rapid delivery, test-and-learn approaches.

  • Outstanding management and delivery skills – the ability to engage and motivate a team to deliver a best-in-class data function, using rapid delivery, test-and-learn approaches

  • Curious and creative thinker – to create a learning organisation committed to continuous improvement and always striving to do things better.

  • Good knowledge of SQL and Analytics (ideally Google Analytics); strong data visualisation skills using Business Intelligence platforms  such as Tableau and PowerBI
