Job Description

The Senior Insight Manager will play an important role in the delivery of the consumer insight program at HarperCollins, focusing on projects for the North American market, which includes HarperCollins US,  HarperCollins Christian and Harlequin. This role will be responsible for successfully and independently delivering (mostly) quantitative research projects, with support from the US Insight Analyst, wider Insight team members and strategic guidance from the Consumer Insight Director.

The Senior Insight Manager will independently manage stakeholder research requests, transforming business challenges in to questionnaires, executing projects and presenting results which aid better decision making with regard to author acquisition & care, content development, creative testing and campaign optimization. They will confidently deliver ad-hoc and quick turnaround research projects, working within in a matrix structure. Where applicable, they will pro-actively use multiple data sources to answer business questions efficiently, including survey data, publicly available reports, as well as social analytics data.

This role will have regular contact with external market research agencies, particularly Toluna. Maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders and working closely with other Insight team members will also be an important aspect of this role.

With direction from the Consumer Insight Director, the person will also play an important role in any ad-hoc largescale strategic pieces of insight.

Responsibilities:

  • With minimal direction from Consumer Insight Director, the Senior Insight Manager will manage large-scale, quantitative consumer insight projects end-to-end, from initial briefing, set up and design, survey programing & analysis, and presenting the results

  • Independently respond to ad-hoc and quick turnaround research queries, thoroughly answering stakeholders’ questions by utilizing the most appropriate data source/method

  • Work closely with other members of the global insight team on group initiatives, implementing tool developments and knowledge sharing

  • Regular contact with research agency partners Toluna

  • Act as a sounding board / mentor for the Insight Analyst, providing guidance on study design and delivery

  • Mine digital tools to understand digital audience demographics, affinities, and engagement

 Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Extensive experience at a research agency in a quantative role, or in a specialist client-side research function (publishing, media or creative industry experience an advantage)

  • Demonstrable expertise in creating engaging questionnaires that answer research objectives whilst ensuring enjoyable respondent experience

  • Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders virtually and in-person.

  • Survey programming a bonus

  • Proven experience presenting actionable insights to senior stakeholders

  • Analytical and data literate

  • Expert communication skills, comfortable managing relationships with and leading presentations to stakeholders of all levels

  • Experience working as part of a global team desirable

  • Outstanding attention to detail and time management skills

  • The ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at one time

  • Enthusiastic and passionate about books

  • Advanced PowerPoint & Excel skills, confidence in utilising various cross-tabbing/research software. Experience of Microsoft Power BI and advantage

  • Enthusiasm for storytelling and learning—deep curiosity for understanding people and their shopping behavior, leisure activities, media/story preferences, needs and motivations
