Job Description

Bethnal Green Ventures is a leading early-stage ‘tech for good’ investor and accelerator. Our mission is to build a global community of great tech startups & founders which provide huge positive social impact and financial returns. Since 2012 we’ve backed over 110 startups with a social purpose through our accelerator programme, including Fairphone, DrDoctor, Overleaf, Piclo, Our Path, Bright Little Labs and many more.

We’re very proud of the companies we have invested in and are currently raising two new investment funds to continue on our goal of supporting the best tech for good ventures. While the core BGV team is small (we’re a dynamic bunch of eight people), our wider community includes over 60 live startups in our portfolio and over 100 mentors in our network. We work alongside our ventures in our co-working space near Aldgate and help run the London Tech for Good meetup with over 7,500 members.

Our Board currently consists of two executive directors (Melanie Hayes and Paul Miller), two non-executive directors (Giles Andrews and Francine Bennett) and an observer on behalf of Big Society Capital (Evita Zanuso). We’re looking for a new Non-Executive Board Member to build our experience and skills in impact measurement, holding us to account in terms of the positive impact we want to have on society and the environment.

As a Board Member your responsibilities will include:

  • Attending 5-6 two hour Board Meetings per year

  • Providing advice on our strategy and input into our planning with particular emphasis on social and environmental impact

  • Holding the team to account on their execution of plans

  • Monitoring and reviewing risk management controls

  • Ensuring that BGV meets all its moral and legal obligations

The ideal person will:

  • Have an affinity with BGV’s mission and values and be excited about the opportunity to support socially motivated tech startups

  • Have previous board experience

  • Have experience in measuring the social or environmental impact of businesses

Benefits:

  • The ability to shape the strategy and impact of one of Europe’s most exciting impact investment firms

  • An amazing experience working with startups solving big social and environmental problems

  • Exposure to our growing network of alumni, mentors and investors

We are committed to building a diverse community and strongly encourage applications from women, minorities and individuals with disabilities.
