Job Description

Introduction to the role

We are looking for a Communications Assistant to support the Communications Director and Communications Manager on all corporate communications matters, with special responsibilities for creating content for our enhanced intranet and corporate websites and running the company’s corporate Twitter account.

This is a varied role in a small and busy team working at the centre of the business, responsible for working with sister companies and editorial divisions as well as supporting the various projects within the communications department. This includes working on external communications, communications to staff in our five offices and supporting our CSR and environmental activities and our varied events programme.

Key Accountabilities

  • External communications and social media

    • Manage the @HarperCollinsUK Twitter account

    • Work with the divisional marketing and publicity teams

    • Monitor main the Communications@HarperCollins.co.uk inbox

  • Internal communications

    • Responsible for drafting internal communications

    • Write news stories for company intranet

    • Liaise with key contacts across the company for content generation

  • Corporate Website

    • Maintain corporate website content

  • Executive Brief

    • Research and compile the weekly round-up of newspaper cuttings, company announcements and key events for the Exec Board

  • CSR and Environment

    • Work with the comms team to implement charitable strategies and campaigns

    • Support the work of the Environmental steering group

  • Events

    • Assist the comms team with implementation of internal and external events programm

  • Media Monitoring

    • Collate and maintain information such as prize winners and bestseller lists

    • Compile daily media round-ups

Skills required

  • An excellent storyteller and able to demonstrate an ability to write articles, feature stories, and communications pieces

  • Ability to communicate confidently at all levels

  • Basic design skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Wordpress, preferable but not essential

  • Experience in management of social media accounts, preferable but not essential

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Ability to respect confidentiality at all times
