Job Description

The role

The Rights Assistant will provide vital administrative support to the Rights Director & Head of Rights for Non Fiction. This role will work across our Non-Fiction, Custom Publishing, Williams Collins and 4th Estate divisions. This position is fast paced and varied, requiring accuracy and attention to detail. You will have the exciting opportunity to contribute to a key commercial division of HarperCollins and work in several international markets. This is an excellent position for someone with a keen interest in rights and who wishes to develop a career in this area.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with Senior Rights Analyst to ensure the maintenance and accuracy of our rights system and database.

  • Working closely with Group Rights Director on the supply of content to Harper Collins Global offices.

  • Creating and updating rights guides.

  • Working with a close-knit team (plus sales and editorial) to assist in building the list and delivering the books.

  • General support and administrative back up, including diary management and processing invoices.

  • Assisting in preparation for book fairs and sales trips, including scheduling meetings.

  • Dealing with telephone and written rights queries.

  • Creating & drafting contracts.

  • Liasing with the production team.

  • Editorial admin support.

  • Supporting the Tolkien rights team.

Skills, Experience and Disposition

  • Experience of working in an office environment.

  • A keen interest in rights and the desire to learn more about this part of the business and it's place in the industry.

  • Work experience in publishing house would be advantageous to the role but not a necessity.

  • Computer skills in Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

  • Meticulous attention to detail when working with systems and large sums of data.

  • Ability to prioritise and manage a high workload from time to time.

  • Good levels of numeracy skills.

  • Practical and flexible.

  • A proactive team member .
