Job Description

We are looking for a Chief Operating Officer to run Slow Ways’ day-to-day operations. From walking epic journeys to surveying their local routes, people are at the heart of Slow Ways. We want to grow Slow Ways so that we can support their efforts and enable the initiative to flourish. As our Chief Operating Officer you will look after our finances, human resources, policies, legal work and capacity to deliver. You will also have a key role in helping to develop the future of Slow Ways.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing Slow Ways and our team with a supportive foundation

  • Making great things possible and helping us to achieve our aims

  • Overseeing daily operations and day-to-day administration

  • Measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes and taking steps to improve them

  • Developing and implementing growth strategies

  • Looking after our policies

  • Managing our contracts and legal work

  • Keeping us updated with current legislation and legal requirements 

  • Acting as a liaison with current and future partners

  • Developing, controlling and managing financial budgets, systems and reports

  • Overseeing the quality assurance of Slow Ways routes

  • Fundraising  

  • Coordinating with the team to recruit skilled talent and keep employees

  • Providing a system for employee salaries and benefits, and makes sure employees feel valued

  • Motivating staff to surpass their goals

  • Helping set and report on the organisation’s KPIs and ensuring those goals are exceeded.

  • Caring for a team, mission and organisation

  • Managing an organisation’s financial responsibilities 

  • Managing human resources, including salaries, recruitment and benefits

  • Managing contracts and legal advice 

  • Growing a diverse and inclusive community

  • Writing staff and organisation policies 

  • Significant involvement with a start-up

  • Use of accountancy software

  • Financial reporting to the National Lottery, Foundations or Trusts
