Job Description

About the role

As a Lead Interaction Designer at dxw, you’ll work with government and public and voluntary sector organisations on projects that make a real difference to people’s lives. From helping schools to save money, to improving services for social housing residents. You’ll also provide support to the rest of the design team, making sure that projects are delivered with user-centred principles.

You’ll lead on building awareness of the design discipline both within dxw and externally, and build a toolkit of resources for others to use.

You’ll support colleagues in dxw with building the wider design community, internally and externally. For example, by facilitating events, writing blog posts, or creating and sharing new methods. You’ll also help to position dxw as an agency that specialises in all design disciplines.

You’ll support the sales team and others to prepare bids and pitch for new work where design is a factor.

You’ll help with scheduling by identifying when interaction designers have availability and identifying the right people for projects.

You’ll help guide the management and development of the design team. You’ll identify missing skills or areas to develop for the team which could be through external and internal training opportunities and/or mentoring.

You’ll have both leading and participating responsibilities for the recruitment of interaction designers and our growing external network of dxw friends, and identifying skills gaps in the team.

About us

dxw works with the public and third sectors to create services and products that improve lives.

We’ve been around since 2008 and worked on lots of projects that have made a real difference - things like helping to track aid spending and looking at how to improve digital collaboration between local authorities.

dxw is employee-owned and staff have an important voice in the direction of the company. People - the people who work at dxw, our clients, and the people we create services for - are at the forefront of what we do.

We want our teams to be as diverse as possible and to create an environment where everyone feels included and can be themselves. We work flexibly and always look to find ways we can meet different needs. You will have the opportunity to be involved in different areas of the business,  including company initiatives such as diversity and inclusion and the earth group.

About you

You have demonstrable experience building and maintaining productive working relationships with colleagues, senior stakeholders and across teams designing digital services.

You will manage and prioritise competing demands on your time whilst leading on the creation of products and services that are informed by user needs and insight.

You are capable of leading design workshops and design sprints with the team, and build trusting relationships with senior stakeholders and users.

You have demonstrable experience leading on prototyping to test hypotheses based on user needs.

You have experience leading multidisciplinary design projects. You have been involved in mentoring, managing, and training other designers.

Join us!

You can learn more about dxw, how we work and what matters to us on our website and by reading our playbook.

Our public sector work means that appointments will be made subject to a background check and you must be located and eligible to work in the UK at the point of application. Unfortunately we are currently unable to offer visa sponsorship.

If you have any questions around the role, we’d be pleased to answer them. Send a message to recruitment@dxw.com and we’ll get back to you.
