Job Description

At NearSt we are on a journey to make retail more connected so we need to hire engineers to help build the next iteration of our product and scale our infrastructure to meet our ambitions. We also want to build a platform that is as joyful for a developer to work on as it is for our customers to use.

We have great foundations: 1000s of happy customers, a fast and easy to use deployment process, good test suites, developer-friendly infrastructure - AWS Lambda, DynamoDB,  s3, serverless framework, and great tech stack - Node.js and React.

We are looking for an engineer to join our friendly and awesome team. You will be working on both the back-end and front-end of our system, building out new user interfaces as well as linking them to both existing and new APIs.  We enjoy working as a team to identify simple solutions to novel and tricky problems.

This position would be suitable for someone who is looking for their first or second job as an engineer and is great for those who enjoy getting involved in all aspects of engineering; from designing solutions to writing, reviewing, and testing code. This is a versatile role that allows you to get hands-on with the code while giving you room to shape the company at an early stage.

In the first 6 months, you will

  • Make amazing contributions to the product. You’ll deploy to production on the first day (with help from your onboarding buddy).

  • Submit a feature to the company's product prioritisation process. You’ll be able to get involved in feature delivery from ideation, prioritisation, shaping, development through to measuring impact.

  • Get to know and work on our entire product

  • Change how we work. During our biweekly retrospectives, we continually inspect and improve our engineering process

  • Contribute improvements to the tools and infrastructure we use every day

About our engineering team

NearSt is a collaborative place, which means we work together and no one gets left behind. We value positive, open communication. Learning is important. We are willing to sacrifice development velocity to provide a positive workplace for engineers because we believe that a happy team makes the best product.

The path to joining the Engineering team at NearSt is a varied one; only one of us has studied Computer Science; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former art historians; others’ first love was Microsoft Excel! As long as you enjoy learning new things, we'd be very happy to hear from you!

About NearSt

NearSt is the platform getting people back into high street shops.

We are building the API economy for retail by creating a universal platform that makes a shop’s inventory data visible to the internet. We exist so that anyone, anywhere can see what’s in stock in their local shop; opening up possibilities for retail that previously only existed for e-commerce.

At our Shoreditch HQ you’ll find music, food, plants, the occasional dog, and spaces for focussed and collaborative working. On Friday you’ll usually find us celebrating the week with a drink (or two!) as part of our weekly roundup too.

We are all united in our enthusiasm for what the future of retail holds (hear our CEO talk about this during our keynote at The Next Web), and believe we have an incredible opportunity to make a massive positive impact on the world.

Benefits

  • We are open to fully remote working but we also see value in face to face interaction at our stage of growth so would want to work out how we accommodate for that depending on your circumstances - talk to us!

  • Wellbeing benefits and access to online therapy via Spill

  • Learning and development budget

  • Support to progress in your career

  • Stock Option Plan
