Job Description

The role

HarperCollins is looking for a talented creative artworker to join the design team responsible for Fiction, Avon and NonFiction covers and internal design. While publishing experience is not essential the successful candidate will have a strong portfolio that demonstrates a creative approach to photo-manipulation and retouching.

The role will involve supporting the Design team with day-to-day artworking and photoshopping and retouching for all Fiction, Avon and NonFiction titles. This will involve, but is not limited to, creating print ready layouts for both cover and internal files, designing marketing assets when appropriate and archiving work once a job has gone to print. You will also be expected to support the day to day duties of the department in producing any additional assets required e.g. for the marketing dept­­. In addition, there will be opportunities to work on integrated, colour books should you be interested in developing your skills further.

Responsibilities

  • Work with designers to take their initial ideas and work up to a finished print ready image

  • Liaise with production with regard to deadlines, formats and finishes to ensure cover proofs and approved final jackets go to press on time and on budget

  • Establish good working relationships with colleagues in Sales, Editorial, Marketing and Production.

  • Regular communication with Creative Director, Deputy Art Director and Studio Manager to ensure workflow is manageable.

Essential Qualifications/Experience/Skills

  • A portfolio that demonstrates a creative, versatile approach to design

  • Strong artworking/photoshopping skills and indepth knowledge of print process.

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work to deadlines

  • Comfortable working on own initiative

  • Good attention to detail and strong typographic skills

  • Creative and enthusiastic team player

  • Proactive and personable

  • Resilient and able to take feedback/direction from others
