Job Description

Are you a L&D professional within the construction industry who is keen to take on a new challenge? Does the thought of a newly created position excite you? Make your mark and showcase your skills and experience as Compliance and Technical Learning Lead, designing and implementing a revised framework for the way in which compliance and technical training is scheduled and delivered across the Carey Group.

The Compliance and Technical Learning Lead will challenge the status quo and champion a culture shift across Careys, driving a more commercially viable training model focussed on bulk-training, in-house delivery and proactive and organised (as opposed to ad-hoc) scheduling. You will be a change agent who can see and re-enforce the bigger picture - partnering and influencing operational and functional leaders and project teams to embrace and embed the change and achieve the goal of ‘right person, right training, right time and right cost.’

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all compliance (construction and safety critical certifications), business governance (e.g. competition law, bribery and corruption, GDPR) and core-function technical learning needs (operations, engineering and commercial) are strategically delivered across the Group (Careys and BDL) via a first-class quality and commercially viable model.

  • Introduce and drive a revised scheduling and delivery framework for mandatory compliance training (SHED 2.5, Manual Handling, Face Fit, Small Tools & Abrasive Wheels, First Aid at Work, Mental Health First Aid, Fire Marshall and PAT Testing).

  • Further embed our self-delivery model, moving away from supplier-led training. Maintain in-house SSP accreditation and target further commercially viable accreditations to deliver the highest volume/core courses in-house.

  • Identify and upskill a pool of in-house regional trainers/facilitators to deliver programme

  • Partner with operations, commercial and engineering disciplines to embed clear learning pathways that are aligned with recognised chartership bodies (RICS, CIOB and ICE).

  • Use reports and data to collate and analyse training needs.

About You

A collaborative and trustworthy relationship-builder and change agent with the proven ability to partner with, engage and influence others. You will be a proactive self-starter, excited by the prospect of taking on a new role and identifying and embedding a new compliance and technical training model. A role model of the Carey Group's values and behaviours of care, humility, passion and authenticity.

Technical Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience within a Learning and Development role.

  • Construction industry experience, with foundational knowledge of compliance training and core functions (operations, engineering and commercial).

  • Pragmatic and commercially aware – track record of implementing a streamlined and cost-effective learning offering.

  • Experience in becoming or working as part of an accredited training organisation.

This role can be based out of any of our UK offices in London, Glasgow and Milton Keynes. Nationwide travel across our projects is required to successfully embed and ensure people’s buy-in for the revised training model. We have a 2-3 day a week in the office/on-site hybrid approach, with some home working.
