Who we are

The Centre for Public Impact (‘CPI’) is a not-for-profit foundation, founded by the Boston Consulting Group. We work with governments and their partners around the world to bring about better outcomes for people. This is a new position at CPI which will contribute to growing our voice and global network to help unlock the positive potential of government.

Our Values

CPI’s values are embedded in all roles and applicants must evidence their values as part of the application process. We have an international working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

● Believe in the positive power of government

● Embrace diversity of ideas, opinions, backgrounds and ways of working

● Challenge the status quo, think creatively and act entrepreneurial

● Treat each other with respect and act with integrity at all times

● Provide honest and timely feedback to help each other learn and grow

● Aim for excellence in what we do, individually and as a team

● Care about each other beyond our professional roles

● Have fun and seek to spark joy in the world

● Work as "One CPI" sharing opportunities and helping one another while encouraging and recognising individual contributions

How we work

The CPI team in London which you will be joining operates in a self-organised way. We work in small, objective-driven teams where hierarchies are limited and all team members are encouraged to grow, share ideas and nurture their development. This way of working gives the team a lot of entrepreneurial freedom in how they pursue their goals both collectively and individually. This means that you will be working with and be mentored by a wide variety of people from CPI, gaining experience across different teams.

About this position

You will work on our research projects and product development related to CPI’s understanding of government effectiveness. Through this role, you will foster valuable research and writing skills. There will be additional exciting opportunities to attend talks and conferences at think tanks or universities and to publish your own writing. This internship offers a fantastic opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their existing research skills further in an impact-oriented environment.

The Role:

● Develop CPI products designed to help governments achieve better outcomes for their citizens

● Research on non-traditional models of public service delivery and new emerging practices in the public sector

● Produce reports which draw insights from your research of various topics related to government and its relationship with people

● Writing summaries and meta-analyses from various sources

● Assisting with interviewing individuals and focus groups

● Contribute to innovation and research projects with guidance from Senior Programme Associates

● Work closely with other team members to help shape CPI's thinking and influence our current and future activities

About you

We look for people with:

● An Undergraduate Degree or relevant Apprenticeship/Work Experience

● An interest in the workings of government and public services

● An analytical mind with excellent qualitative research capabilities

● Ability to operate collaboratively as part of a growing team

● Initiative and motivation to work in a self-managed team

● Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

● Commitment to CPI’s Values

● Optional: Familiarity with G-suite

We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply. This includes candidates that have previously found it hard to be considered for other positions on the basis of their qualifications, disabilities, personal background or life events. If you would like to apply for the position but see a barrier to joining us (such as, for example, the deposit costs for renting in London), please do apply and we will work with you to find a solution.

Details and logistics

This is a 3 month full-time position (38 hours per week) at CPI’s offices in East London. We offer the possibility to work from home for one or several days a week. Note that if applying from abroad, you should ensure that you meet the necessary visa and work permit requirements. CPI is unable to act as a sponsor or provide visa support.

Please note the following:

● We would like a candidate to start in late August 2019

● We will review the first wave of applications after the 24th of May

● First-round interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis shortly after that

● You do not need to be in London for first-round interviews

We are determined to ensure that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, or race, or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be justifiable.
