Job Description
Bethnal Green Ventures (BGV) is looking to hire a Communications and Events Associate. This is an exciting entry level position, for anyone interested in entering the VC and impact investing industry, and wants to learn more about the inner workings of emerging funds.
BGV is Europe’s leading early-stage tech for good VC. We back ambitious founders using technology to tackle social and environmental challenges and radically drive positive impact at scale. Since 2012 we’ve backed over 130 ventures including Fairphone, DrDoctor, Piclo, Overleaf, Andiamo, Second Nature, Organise and many more.
Our Associate programme will give you a chance to see how BGV works, to work on our external comms, assist in expanding the growing tech for good community, and to get involved in telling the stories of our founders making the world a better place.
You’ll work closely with our Communications Manager and are part of the fundraising communications (the fun-comms) team, which also includes our CEO, Head of Fundraising and Investor Relations Associate.
You will be responsible for:
Maintaining our social media accounts and website for BGV and Tech for Good Global: drafting posts, creating visuals, engaging with followers, monitoring
Updating and analysing communications statistics and visibility in media
Organising our events, including the BGV Demo Day; finding a venue, arranging catering, liaising with film crew, managing the invite list and the teams in the lead up to the event
Assisting in event organisation for our Tech For Good meetups; researching and sourcing speakers, organising venues or virtual spaces, catering (COVID-permitting) and managing attendees
Supporting the growth of techforgood.global’s online footprint and contribute to drafting and editing content for our techforgood.global website and newsletter
Helping to manage responding to general enquiries
Person specification:
You'll have an interest in brand, marketing, communications and strong affinity in using social media tools for business
You are excited by the tech for good startup scene and feel that BGV’s values align with yours
You’ll have advanced skills in writing and editing, and experience in photo editing and visual design
You’re good at getting stuff done, and can work on tight deadlines
You’re willing to muck in with a variety of tasks and enjoy working in a small highly energetic team
And you’re always willing to learn more and have a strong desire to learn all aspects of a comms and events role
What we can offer:
Pay of £25,000 per year with a broad range of experiences working for one of the leading impact investors in Europe.
25 days annual leave.
A great work environment and supportive team culture.
A learning and development budget to set you up for your personal growth and development, while gaining a broad overview of what goes on at Bethnal Green Ventures.
A fun place to work in London (COVID-permitting) and online.
The opportunity to build relationships with the tech for good community in London and beyond - be they impact investors, startups, policy makers or funders.
What we can’t offer you
We are a small team and we can’t promise you a permanent job with BGV at the end. However, this role is designed to give you exposure to all elements of our network, and we hope it will act as a stepping stone to working with one of our alumni startups, funders or investors.
The Associate role is due to run from January 11th 2021, however we are flexible on the start date.
We are committed to building a diverse community and want to increase opportunities for people from all walks of life to enter the VC and impact investing space. We fundamentally believe that diverse teams perform better, and talent is distributed in equal measure.
We are a proud BCorp, an Equal Opportunities and Living Wage employer, and strongly encourage people of colour, women, LGBTQIA individuals and people with disabilities and other underrepresented communities to apply to this role.
