About the role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full-time, permanent Internal and Change Communications Manager to join the Marketing and Communications directorate at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. This role will support the Head of Marketing & Brand to deliver communications strategies and manage a busy schedule of communications for our 350 employees and more than 4,500 volunteers across the UK and overseas.

Given our hybrid working approach, you will possess a fantastic understanding and knowledge of how to use digital communications to engage our people virtually. Knowledge of more traditional offline methods will also be required when you are planning the delivery of internal events such as our Annual General Meeting.

You will work across all areas of SSAFA, from Trustee level down, so stakeholder management will be a key skill that you possess. You will have a dotted line to our People team and our Volunteer Operations directorate, as your key internal clients it will be advantageous to have the ability to build strong working relationships to help them achieve their strategic objectives.

Your talents will involve creating written content, but also support others to create content that will be effective in providing the most relevant messages to the right audience at the right time. You will provide best practice support for teams when there is devolved working.

Join us at an exciting time, as SSAFA’s new business strategy will be released in 2022, a project that the new Internal and Change Communications Manager will be involved in communicating across the organisation. Alongside the new strategy SSAFA is working on other exciting change programmes for you to be involved in, supporting ambitious plans.

We are looking for someone with an exceptional eye for detail, bags of initiative, creativity and innovation to bring to our internal engagement communications. This role will offer plenty of variety for someone who can manage a busy workload.

About the team

You will be joining a well-established team of marcomms professionals, ranging from designers and social media experts to case study managers, and beyond that you will work closely with a wide range of internal teams too. You will sit in the Marketing and Brand team, with whom you will have daily meetings, and like you work to support teams from across SSAFA to support their objectives.

About you

To hit the ground running and carry out this role successfully you will have:

·        Demonstratable experience in developing and executing integrated communication strategies for organisational priorities and change programs.

·        Experience of providing strategic advice on communications planning and execution for key stakeholders, as well as conflict managing our internal schedule.

·        Proven ability to use metrics and insights to refine communications approaches across multiple channels.

·        Confidence and experience to simplify complex topics on behalf of stakeholders for a variety of audiences, particularly in writing.

·        Curiosity to keep on top of new trends and technology which impacts internal engagement or change communications, in particular digital channels.

·        Excellent skills in using digital software to support mass internal communications, such as an intranet, email, internal social media. (Any knowledge of SharePoint, Yammer and DotDigital would be beneficial but not essential).

·        Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines as needed.

·        Experience of working in an organisation with volunteers would be beneficial.
