About the Centre for Public Impact

At the Centre for Public Impact, we know that governments can’t solve 21st century challenges with 20th century tools and systems. That’s why we have an emerging vision to reimagine government so that it works for everyone. A global not-for-profit organisation founded by the Boston Consulting Group, we serve as a learning partner for governments, public servants and the diverse network of changemakers leading the charge to reimagine government. We work with them to hold space to collectively make sense of the complex challenges we face and drive meaningful change through experimentation.

Just over six years old, we’re moving out of our start-up phase and have an expansive global footprint with regional offices in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and more in the pipeline. Our fast-growing, highly motivated team works with some of the biggest names in government and public sector innovation in the world. We need a motivated and very well-connected strategic communications expert to join our Global Communications Team and take over some of the core responsibilities of our Global Director of Communications while she is on maternity leave. Position summary

The Global Head of Communications will join our Global Head of Digital Communications and Global Communications Associate who jointly coordinate our communications efforts across regional offices. You will take on some of the Global Director’s core responsibilities at a moment when the organisation will be in the early stages of implementing our new two-year external communications and external engagement strategy. This phase of strategy implementation will require strong strategic partnership development and storytelling skills to help grow the awareness of, commitment to, and advocacy for our emerging vision for better government among key stakeholder and audience groups.

In addition to your global communications colleagues, you will work closely with communications leads in our North America and Europe offices, office directors in Australia and India, and the Global Operations Team. You’ll also work closely with the Executive Director to develop and execute the flagship partnership opportunities envisaged in the communications strategy. You will be across the detail of all of CPI’s global programmes and able to identify great impact stories and develop them across using a range of media and platforms. 

Ideally, you will have deep experience in the charity and not-for-profit world and/or firsthand knowledge of the public sector. You will be a confident communicator and negotiator, able to talk to people at the highest levels, an enthusiast for government, and keen to muck in and push us to new heights in helping to reimagine government.

Our team has been working remotely throughout the pandemic, but is seeking to secure new office space in London in early 2022 for occasional collaboration. We expect many in the team to return to the office 1-2 days per week on average, but this is not a requirement and full-time remote work arrangements are warmly supported.

Basic job requirements

  • Adjust and manage a multi-channel communications strategy linked to our vision and mission, team goals, and programmatic work

  • Drive the editorial pipeline of content, seeking the most interesting views from those making governments work around the world - including our own team

  • Cultivate and manage high-profile content and event partnerships with multiple internal and external stakeholders

  • Synthesize complex information into clear messages for key audience groups, including media

  • Help CPI’s spokespeople to create a higher profile for their work with compelling points of view

  • Spot and share opportunities for CPI to advance our brand and mission in key regions

  • Liaise with key marketing stakeholders at BCG and the communications leads from other partner organisations

  • Oversee the work of freelance writers, producers, and other vendors; keeping them mission-aligned and on budget

  • Performing other duties as required

Person requirements – essential

  • PR/Journalism background demonstrating excellent storytelling instincts and content marketing knowledge

  • Experience in the charity and not-for-profit world and/or firsthand knowledge of the public sector

  • Proven experience guarding an organisation’s brand and tone of voice, as well as building profiles for key spokespeople

  • Proven experience executing multi-channel communications strategies and high-profile content/event partnerships

  • Excellent editorial instincts and both spoken and written English, incorporating key messages across channels

  • A team player and effective communicator who can easily work across teams and cultures

  • A creative and entrepreneurial mindset

  • Strong project management skills; ability to manage resources, budgets and contractors

  • Adherence to CPI values

Person requirements - desirable

  • Experience with media relations and coaching spokespeople

  • Event management experience

  • Digital content marketing expertise

  • Multimedia content creation experience (graphic design, audio/video editing, animation)

  • Experience with CRM strategy and management
