Job Description

About Talis

Talis is an early-stage venture capital firm on a mission to back technology founders who see the future differently. When it comes who we back, how we build and who we hire, we don’t let received wisdom stand in our way. We believe that to create different, you have to be different.

Investing at seed to Series B, our growing portfolio includes category-defining companies like Darktrace, Onfido, Carta, iwoca, Pirate, The Plum Guide, Luminance and Ynsect.

After two record-breaking years, Talis is looking for the next rising stars to join our investment team where you will be given the opportunity to take ownership of deal sourcing, supporting our portfolio companies and learning first-hand what it takes to work in venture.

Our team is purposefully unconventional, but this is our strength: we draw on our experiences as operators, founders, practitioners and professionals to take a fundamentally different approach to venture. Whether you already have a few years of venture experience or you’re looking to make a move from another industry, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role

During this 12-month placement you'll be a key participant in the investment process, managing our investment pipeline, conducting investment analysis and supporting our portfolio companies. You’ll also be involved in ongoing founder mentoring, participate in community activities, and engaging with other investors from the venture community.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll do:

  • Pipeline Management. You’ll be supporting the investment team with all aspects of deal flow - from sourcing, tracking pipeline, evaluating potential investments to assisting with deal execution and closing

  • Portfolio Management. You’ll be helping the investment team monitor portfolio company performance; analysing board decks, quarterly updates and attending calls with founders to track performance and manage next steps

  • Research. You’ll conduct detailed company and sector research

  • Administration. You’ll be responsible for the maintenance of our CRM system relating to company data and investment deals, as well as increasing visibility of all deal flow, contacts, interactions, and activities

  • And you'll assist the team with other ad-hoc tasks such as compiling periodic investor updates and reports

Your skills:

You'll be the right person for this job if:

  • You're passionate for early-stage companies, technology and the venture ecosystem

  • You aren’t shy about asking probing questions and can systematically solve complex problems

  • You have strong financial modelling and financial literacy skills, and get a kick out of identifying insight through analysis

  • You’re a self-starter and relish working in a fast-paced environment

Benefits:

  • You’ll be joining a dynamic and entrepreneurial team which is friendly and non-hierarchical

  • You’ll get a chance to interact with the most exciting technology entrepreneurs, companies and investors, and be at the forefront of tech innovation

  • You’ll join a team that puts employee wellbeing and mental health as a key priority; we offer free personal trainer team sessions 3x a week at midday as well as many other benefits
