Job Description

The Holocaust Educational Trust team is made up of hard working, energetic people who are passionate about our mission to educate every person from every background in the UK about the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance. We believe that the Holocaust must have a permanent place in our nation’s collective memory. We work across the UK, providing a wide range of educational programmes.

Our Outreach Programme is the largest programme of its kind in the country. Each year, on average, 100,000 people hear from a Holocaust survivor directly, putting a human face to the numbers and wider history of the Holocaust. We organise for survivors to visit schools, colleges, universities, workplaces, community groups and religious organisations entirely free of charge. Alongside survivor testimony, we also offer educational, interactive workshops for students, led by our specially trained experts, and focussing on various aspects of Holocaust history. The sessions delivered through our Outreach Programme are often described as ‘the most memorable’ in the academic calendar.

As an Outreach Officer you would be the primary liaison to our network of volunteer survivor speakers and with schools taking part in our Outreach Programme. To join the team would be an opportunity to be at the forefront of Holocaust education at this critical point in time when the Holocaust is moving from living memory into history.

The Outreach Officer should have the following skills/qualities:

  • Excellent listening skills and a high level of emotional intelligence

  • Enjoys building and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders

  • Rigorous attention to detail

  • Ability to take initiative

  • High level of verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to create simple tables and use formulae in Excel. Able to use this data to create statistical reports

  • Keen to learn and develop the role over time

In your first 6 months, you’ll:

1. Learn about and meet our network of survivor speakers.

2. Become familiar with the booking system and database for Outreach sessions and ensure both are used accurately and efficiently.

3. Offer advice to teachers regarding the most appropriate content for proposed Outreach sessions

4. Be the primary point of contact for Outreach Programme volunteers and organise opportunities for them to meet and work with survivor speakers.

5. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the direction and content of the Outreach Programme.

After 6 months in post, we'd expect you to:

  • Be the point person for our network of survivor speakers; including holding regular one-to-one meetings with survivors and volunteers.

  • Work with the Outreach Programme Manager to monitor delivery and survivor welfare. Acting on any concerns or issues that are raised.

  • Track and monitor the Outreach Programme budget, raising any concerns as appropriate.

  • Lead the logistics planning for an annual training day for freelance educators and an annual event for survivor speakers.

  • Assist the Outreach Programme Manager to ensure that monitoring, evaluation and learning feeds into future programme development.

  • Attend training sessions in order to deliver Outreach workshops in schools and other organisations.

Like the rest of the Holocaust Educational Trust team, you will also benefit from:

  • Flexible working – staff have the flexibility to work their contracted hours around the core hours of 10am – 4pm and are able to make flexible working requests that will be assessed on a case by case basis.

  • Annual leave - 22 days annual leave each year plus bank holidays. This increases by one day after 2 years continuous service and is capped at 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

  • Office Closure days - up to a maximum of 8 closure days per year.

  • Enhanced Maternity/Shared Parental/Adoption leave packages

  • Enhanced Paternity/Partner leave policy

  • Compassionate leave

  • Pension

  • Private medical insurance

  • Enhanced Sick Pay

  • Life assurance

  • Income Protection

  • Employee Assistance Programme
