Job Description

The Cartographic Technician will work alongside the Head of Geo Information to provide technical support to the Cartographic Project Manager to ensure effective establishment and smooth running of the technical solutions and processes required to achieve full integration of our street level mapping into the cartographic business.

This will involve a degree of hands on cartographic revision and production work alongside more technical GIS development and data editing tasks.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement technical solutions focused on the GIS elements of maintaining and exploiting mapping content.

  • Work with edit freelancers to ensure they have the tools and working practices in place to ensure the required level and flow of revision information is provided.

  • Ensure timely check in/out of map tiles to DTP cartographers. When required, do hands on revision research and map tile mark-up.

  • Ensure central index database is kept up to date and in sync with revised map tiles at all time.

  • Cut mapping/indexes for print product to the specification requested by the Project Manager.

Candidate specification

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in GIS, Cartography or other relevant geo-spatial discipline.

Experience

  • Experience of the practical application of geo-spatial solutions.

  • Practical knowledge of RDBMS, especially oracle, would be advantageous to the role.

  • Practical knowledge of Adobe CS, especially Photoshop, would be advantageous to the role.

Skills/Competencies

  • Technical knowledge and experience of the ArcGIS product family.
