Job Description

The Management Accountant will be responsible for the month end financial statements for the publishing divisions by ensuring that the Head of Financial Reporting and Group Financial Controller have all information they require. The Management Accountant will take responsibility for producing monthly Profit and Loss accounts for four publishing divisions (HarperFiction, Harper Non-Fiction, Avon and One More Chapter).

Key tasks and accountabilities

  • Preparation of month end Profit and Loss Accounts for publishing divisions, ensuring revenues and costs are accurately stated.

  • Assisting finance team in all aspects of the preparation, including posting journals, running reports, posting monthly packs onto intranet

  • Producing month end pack showing key financial analysis and KPIs for relevant publishing division

  • Performing month end and quarter end balance sheet reconciliations for all relevant accounts and providing detailed explanations for any variances

  • Prepare statements of earnings & costs on specific titles to enable payment to authors of appropriate profit share

  • Assisting in the year end statutory audit as required

  • Provide assistance and support where required during the annual budget process

  • Review of the forecast submitted by Commercial Finance team

  • Work closely with the relevant Commercial Directors and Analyst to better understand actual and forecast data, providing assistance and support where required

Skills and experience required

  • Part qualified in CIMA, ACCA or equivalent accountancy qualification.

  • Industry experience in preparation of management accounts.

  • Excellent Excel skills.

  • Solid time management and organisation skills

  • Knowledge or experience with financial accounting software

  • Good knowledge of a finance function and commercial/business understanding
