Job Description

About DVFriends

Delaware Valley Friends School is a national leader educating bright students in grades 1-12 with reading, writing, and other related learning differences. The school attracts students from across the Philadelphia area and is in the midst of several years of program expansion and enrollment growth. Students receive a comprehensive, research-based, college preparatory curriculum, individualized instruction, cutting-edge assistive technologies, and successful college placement, with an emphasis on metacognition and self-advocacy within a community based on Quaker values.

About you and the role

The DFO will join a collaborative and growth-minded leadership team and report directly to the Head of School. The DFO is responsible for managing the financial operations of the school and the human resources, facilities and grounds, information technology, and auxiliary services functions. The DFO sets the school’s financial direction while also being an active participant in, and driver of, the organization’s overall strategy, working closely with the Board of Trustees and its committees.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll do:

  • Provide clear, timely, and accurate financial reporting and analysis to the leadership team, Head of School, and Board of Trustees.

  • Direct the annual budgeting and planning process.

  • Partner with the Head of School and other senior administrators on operational and strategic issues as they arise.

  • Manage human resources, including employee relations, benefits and compensation, and safety for employees.

  • Ensure that the school manages risk effectively by maintaining the right insurance coverages, modeling financial scenarios, negotiating contracts, working with the school’s outside counsel when appropriate, and serving on the school’s safety committee.

  • Oversee facilities and grounds and engage with the Board to complete the school’s master planning process.

Your skills

You'll be the right person for this job if:

  • You want to work for an organization that improves kids’ lives alongside people who share that motivation.

  • You’re not new to financial and operations leadership and are energized by the idea of bringing your experience to a growing organization in a challenging market.

  • You understand generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and have extensive experience with accounting systems.

  • You know yourself well, faults and strengths, and approach others with empathy and generosity of spirit.

  • You’re good at building trust with external and internal stakeholders and have a strong customer service orientation.

  • Data is the air you breathe, and you are great at figuring out the best ways to share its insights with others.

Benefits

You'll benefit from:

  • A robust health insurance plan, including a school contribution that covers the employee cost and a portion of the cost for a partner and dependents.

  • Generous time off policies, including 21 vacation days and 14 holidays a year.

  • Employer match of retirement plan contributions up to 6% of salary.
