Job summary

This role will lead the established Events and Community Fundraising team at Whizz-Kidz, comprising of Challenge Events, Community Fundraising and Special Events. This is an exciting time to be joining Whizz-Kidz as we deliver our ambitious strategic plan for the next three years. This role will support our strategic objectives to grow our income sustainably, diversifying the team’s activities and building on the success of our existing Events and Community Fundraising to enable us to reach more young wheelchair users than ever before.

A member of the Fundraising Management Team, this role will work across the department and the wider organisation to maximise the impact that Events and Community Fundraising can have for the charity, and leverage opportunities to provide exceptional supporter experiences to our fundraisers, leading to long term engagement and support.

The person


You will be a strategic and ambitious fundraising professional, with proven experience in growing income from Events and Community Fundraising. You will have a thorough knowledge of Events and/or Community Fundraising, and the entrepreneurial, innovative outlook to help Whizz-Kidz continue to adapt to this changing landscape and deliver sustainable growth. You will be an experienced line manager and inspiring team leader, with the ability to nurture talent and empower your team to deliver fantastic results.

You will have exceptional communication and relationship management skills and be excited by the opportunity to further develop this crucial income stream for Whizz-Kidz.  As a collaborative team player, you will be confident in managing your objectives and those of your team,  able to maintain focus on developing and delivering strategic plans, whilst overseeing day to day project management of the team’s varied portfolio, fostering an evidence-based, supporter-centred approach.

Key accountabilities

  • Work with teams across the organisation to deliver and further develop the Events and Community Fundraising strategy, maximizing opportunities to meet financial targets and other relevant KPIs, and support the organisational strategy.  

  • Develop and maintain strong and effective internal and external relationships through appropriate communications, relationship management and cross team working. 

  • Support the Events Fundraising Manager to develop and deliver a robust, varied and attractive portfolio of effective challenge events, which appeal to Whizz-Kidz’s existing supporter base and enable us to reach new audiences.

  • Support the Special Events Manager to develop and deliver an annual calendar of stewardship, cultivation and income generating special events, which meet the needs of all fundraising audiences and key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead the development of Community Fundraising, supporting the Community Fundraising Executive to develop and manage supporter relationships, identify and pursue new opportunities and maximise return on investment.

  • Support the development of long term supporter relationships, and the cross-pollination of income streams, centered on a first class supporter journey. Lead the team to establish, uphold and hone processes and  practices which deliver an exceptional supporter experience and lead to lifetime support. 

  • Work closely with the Communications Team to ensure the Events and Community Fundraising Team’s activities are effectively marketed, to support brand awareness and to increase public awareness of the charity’s work. 

  • Work within all internal and sector-wide processes, best practice and guidelines. Ensure safeguarding and risk management processes are followed and  upheld at all times. Ensure the maintenance of effective and  accurate records of all key activities and contacts on RE and ensure the  integrity of our data.

  • Represent the charity at events, both external and Whizz-Kidz’s own, networking, cultivating new relationships and effectively engaging with all stakeholders

  • Work within all policies, procedures and budgets set by Whizz-Kidz.

  • Act at all times in the best interest of Whizz-Kidz.

  • Form effective working relationships with all colleagues members, volunteers and outside organisations as appropriate.

  • Take responsibility for ensuring that the policies and procedures relating to Health & Safety in the workplace are adhered to at all times.

  • Respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the Data Protection Act.

  • Not disclose to an unauthorised person any confidential information acquired through official duties unless they have received official permission to do so.

Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week . Some out of hours working will be required. Flexible working and TOIL offered.

Term: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Person specification

Skills and knowledge

· Proven track record in Events and/or Community Fundraising, demonstrable experience of meeting and exceeding targets and delivering growth

· Excellent relationship building skills and ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of seniority and influence. 

· Demonstrable knowledge of charity fundraising and the public fundraising  climate we are currently operating within. 

· Understanding of marketing and PR - able to ensure events are effectively promoted and that all opportunities to build the profile of the charity are exploited.

· Excellent organisational and project management skills, attention to detail and a creative and solutions focused approach. 

· Ability to use initiative and creativity to identify new opportunities and ways of working to maximize resources.

· Superb written and oral communication skills 

· Comfortable working at a fast pace on multiple projects, and able to be flexible and proactive.

· Proficient in use of CMSs (Raiser’s Edge or equivalent) and Microsoft  Office Suite.

 

Experience

· Experience of managing a challenge events and/or community fundraising programme.

· Experience of line management and leading a team to achieve their goals

· Experience of working across fundraising streams to support a donor’s lifetime journey and maximise cross-selling opportunities

· Experience of setting, effectively managing and reporting on budgets
