Unreasonable Group

Venture Selection Associate

At Unreasonable, we believe entrepreneurs building rapidly scalable businesses are our best bet for solving the most significant social and environmental challenges of our time. Every day, our team strives to give the entrepreneurs we work with an unfair advantage. We do this by connecting entrepreneurs with the networks of mentors, investors, business leaders, and policy makers they need to scale their businesses. Today, the over 160 CEO’s in the Unreasonable Fellowship have raised more than $3.5B in financing, generated more than $2.6B in revenue, and are measurably impacting the lives of more than 350 million individuals in nearly every country and territory worldwide.

We are now searching for a Venture Selection Associate (the “Associate”); one who is a GYSHIDO master and voraciously passionate about research, execution, detailed communication, and identifying entrepreneurs worldwide positioned to put a positive dent on history. Directly reporting to the Head of Venture Selection (Head of VS) and working hand in hand with the entire Global Community team, the Associate will be charged with researching the world’s best impact-focused, for-profit ventures, maintaining a detailed database of said ventures, and assisting the Head of VS with recruitment of said ventures into the Unreasonable Fellowship. If you’re eager to break into the start-up space and support some of the most promising entrepreneurs solving the world’s grandest challenges while learning from and working alongside a team of passionate and intrinsically motivated individuals, then this just might be the job for you!

Responsibilities:

  • Own the venture selection database with the vision that it becomes one of - if not the - most comprehensive databases of impact-focused ventures in the world. Ensure data is MECE (mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive), accurate, up-to-date, and applicable

  • Responsible for tracking venture selection for Unreasonable programs

  • Responsible for necessary maintenance, upgrades, and improvements for the database in order to ensure it operates at its maximum efficiency

  • Conduct research to identify potential Unreasonable ventures

  • Work with the Head of VS to sort and filter potential ventures for outreach

  • Conduct exploratory calls with potential fellows from around the planet on an as-needed basis, as determined by the Head of VS

  • Aid when needed in the construction and implementation of the due diligence process for the Unreasonable investment fund that will support portfolio ventures

  • Conduct regular market and industry research in order to better understand how the venture selection process should evolve in order to select the best ventures solving BFPs

Who We’re Looking For:

  • You are someone who is truly passionate about supporting entrepreneurs who are applying wildly scalable business solutions to solving the world’s greatest challenges.

  • You see entrepreneurship as a driver of economic growth and an agent of global social and environmental change. You believe desperately in the importance of the work being led by impactful entrepreneurs worldwide.

  • You work best on a fast-moving team that is collaborative, and when needed, you are also able to take full ownership of a project from start to finish without direct management.

  • You follow up and follow through religiously. You can’t sleep until you get that promised email out.

  • You love creating systems and implementing them across work streams.

  • You are extremely detail oriented especially when it comes to managing extensive data and information sets.

  • When given clear direction, you are always a top performer on any task. If you haven’t done it before, you teach yourself rather than get deterred by the ambiguity.

  • You love research and take pride in deriving insights from arduous amounts of data

  • You think and operate strategically. You recognize what’s most important to tackle, in what order, and are prepared to make informed, independent decisions.

  • You approach problem-solving with an open mind and are willing to take a leadership position with your peers to ensure best practices become standard.

  • You believe deeply in the importance of transparent and honest communication in what you write and how you interact with your team.

  • As you read about Unreasonable’s core values, you get more and more excited with each value you come across.
