About the role

The National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) has an unswerving commitment to high quality, evidence-informed teacher education, and is on a mission to improve the quality of teacher and leader development across the system.  

We are recruiting for a Head of ECF & NPQ to join our South and West campuses, located in Bristol and Birmingham.  The Head of ECF & NPQ is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational running of the programmes across the campuses and regional delivery partnerships.  The successful candidate will be an experienced school leader who will enjoy working with our NIoT Faculty and programme teams on securing, designing, and delivering our ECF & NPQ programmes and grow the impact and quality of the National Institute’s provision.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead two of our programmes in the region and work in close collaboration with colleagues nationally to continuously improve the quality of teacher development.  The Head of ECF & NPQ is supported by Programme Managers and a campus administrator; collectively this team ensures that we respond to requests from participants and partners in a timely manner and deliver a high-quality programme experience.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Recruit, lead and ensure successful delivery of ECF and NPQ programmes so that they are programmes that participants love and lead them to greater success for their pupils

  • Listen to stakeholders and ensure that the programmes deliver on promises, are seamless and respectful of teachers’ time.

  • Work closely with Heads of Faculty and Content Designers to ensure that the programme is designed with effective delivery in mind

  • Ensure the programme is responsive to participant needs and resolve issues and individual and programmatic level to ensure continuing improvement and that participants are positive about our programmes

  • Intervene if participants are lacking engagement or at risk of withdrawal or failure.

  • Set up and manage structures in discussion with other regions that support participants to access the programme seamlessly and that reporting and monitoring are efficient.

  • Ensure our regional KPIs and targets for ECF & NPQ are met and work with relevant teams throughout the NIoT to regularly monitor progress against these KPIs

  • Deliver robust and appropriate quality assurance and evaluation

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver a full, integrated marketing and communications strategy

  • Liaise with external partners and stakeholders, including Teaching School Hubs Council, national providers of programmes, education charities and organisations, Universities/HEIs within your campus region.

  • Appoint or commission, quality assure and train appropriate specialist personnel to deliver programmes including facilitators, trainers, coaches, mentors and assessors.

  • Implement and oversee management operations to secure high quality programme provision, delivery, and outcomes, including through the management of your Programme team.

Additional responsibilities

  • Ensure all associates and partners commissioned act in accordance with the Institute’s expectations, policies and processes as agreed within the Institute Partnership Agreement.

  • Ensure the effective deployment of all personnel supporting programme delivery.

  • Integrate and disseminate the findings of the Institute’s Research and Best Practice Function.

  • Demonstrate commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Experience of leading the delivery of successful teacher or leadership programmes and preferably the delivery of ECF & NPQ

  • Ability to prioritise work efficiently and accurately, particularly under pressure, to deadlines and using own initiative

  • Coaching and mentoring experience

  • Experience of reporting outcomes and making recommendations drawn from evaluation

  • A degree and/or professional qualification relevant to the post and/or equivalent learning through professional experience

  • Ability to strategically lead the work of partners and stakeholders to deliver project outcomes to a high standard

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to maintain productive and positive relationships with staff, participants and partners

  • Excellent IT skills including the ability to use MS Office software, Teams and Outlook

  • Ability to develop the skills, capacity and competencies of a team in order to meet high levels of productivity and effectiveness

  • Experience of working with participants to ensure a high-quality learning experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working with awarding bodies and OfSted

  • Knowledge and understanding of budget management and financial systems

  • Experience of designing tracking, monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems capable of bringing about outstanding outcomes

  • Knowledge of the ECF and NPQ frameworks

  • Experience of complex project management

  • Existing relationships and partnerships with schools in the South and West region
