Job Summary

The Trust, Statutory and Lottery Team is central to Whizz Kidz achieving its ambitious goal to ensure that every young wheelchair user in the UK is mobile, enabled and included. The six-strong team is responsible for delivering over £3m a year for Whizz Kidz's services.

We are looking for an experienced trusts and foundations fundraiser to join the team on a 12-month contract, covering maternity leave. This is a remote role with occasional travel for events and meetings.

You will manage an identified portfolio of existing, lapsed and cold supporters, with the capacity to give four and five-figure gifts. This is a well-established income stream for Whizz Kidz and you will have the opportunity to work with long standing supporters, helping them to be inspired by the impact of their gift.

You will have the help of experienced managers, and be making the goals of the Whizz Kidz strategy a reality. You will use your skills of relationship management to make a real difference to the lives of young wheelchair users. Finally, you will join an ambitious and collaborative fundraising team, keen to share success and support one another.

The person

The ideal candidate will have experience of securing grants from trusts and foundations and will be an excellent spoken and written communicator. They will have an understanding of the issues young wheelchair users face and be able to convey the work of Whizz Kidz to funders. They will have strong attention to detail and an ability to manage their time effectively and prioritise their own workload.

Key responsibilities

1. Fundraising

Raise income from current and new supporters.

  • Develop a portfolio of small and medium sized trust supporters, through high quality correspondence, funding applications, meetings and service visits, and other forms of communication, with the aim of ensuring their on-going and increasing support.

  • Cultivate major prospects (awarding grants of £20,000+) who are likely to fund the work of Whizz Kidz and write tailored, persuasive proposals to them.

  • Provide excellent stewardship through written update reports for trusts and other grant giving bodies, providing details of the impact of their donations.

  • Provide excellent supporter care to trusts and foundations in your portfolio.

  • Assist in compiling new high quality and compelling templates for funding applications and update reports.

2. Managing relationships

  • Build strong internal working relationships with colleagues to facilitate the gathering of service, impact and finance information for bespoke updates to supporters.

  • Lead on a small number of key grants, building excellent relationships with funders to keep them updated on project progress.

  • Lead the development of regional funding networks that have the potential to support Whizz Kidz's work locally.

3. Finance

  • Work closely with the Finance Team to ensure donations are accurately coded and spent within the grant period.

  • Work with service and finance colleagues to develop project budgets and monitor expenditure for major grants in your portfolio.

4. Managing systems

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on Whizz Kidz’s CRM.

  • Maintain accurate records on major grants for the benefit of other teams.

5. Other

  • Contribute to the Trust, Statutory and Lottery Team’s planning, participate in cross-team working groups, and provide information to feed into management reports as required.

  • Undertake other tasks, as required, that support the Trusts, Statutory and Lottery Team and Fundraising Department as directed by the Trust Fundraising Manager and/ or Head of Trusts, Statutory and Lottery Fundraising.

  • Form effective working relationships with all colleagues members, volunteers and outside organisations as appropriate.

  • Take responsibility for ensuring that the policies and procedures relating to Health & Safety in the workplace are adhered to at all times.

  • Respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the Data Protection Act.

  • Not disclose to an unauthorised person any confidential information acquired through official duties unless they have received official permission to do so.

Skills and knowledge

  • Understanding and familiarity of Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults, the Equality Act, and Health & Safety (Desirable).

  • Understanding of Data Protection (Essential).

Experience

  • Knowledge of and interest in trust fundraising (Essential).

  • Experience of raising money from trusts and foundations (Essential).

  • Experience of writing high-quality donor reports (Essential).

  • Experience of using Raiser’s Edge or other customer relationship management (CRM) databases (Essential).
