Luminate was established in 2018 by Pierre and Pam Omidyar. The organisation was founded by The Omidyar Group.

What is the role?

We are seeking a Chief of Staff to work closely with our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Leadership Team. The Chief of Staff will guide our Leadership team agendas, aligning inputs from across the organisation required to advance our mission and annual objectives. The Chief of Staff will support our internal communications strategy, actively sharing decisions, keeping colleagues updated on strategic developments, and enabling a culture of connection and transparency. The right candidate will be an exceptionally organised and strong communicator who is passionate about our mission, and comfortable working across multiple geographies, in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.

The Chief of Staff position is based in São Paulo, Brazil.

Responsibilities

  • Support the CEO in executing the organisation’s priorities, working in partnership with our Leadership team

  • Lead meeting planning, execution, and coordination of content

  • Work in conjunction with other internal teams supporting weekly calls, and leadership convenings

  • Prepare documentation for the International Board and ensuring prompt follow up and execution of projects and action points

  • Experience of interacting with an international board, preparing documentation to a high standard and at times chairing meetings and sub-groups of the board as required

  • Work with the CEO to build and develop external networks and collaborate with the Communications team to organise selected external speaking and publishing engagements

  • Engage cross-functionally to coordinate and assist on annual planning, budgeting, and other organisation-wide processes

  • Work in collaboration with other functional teams to establish and maintain an organisation-wide calendar of activity

  • Build strong relationships to ensure effective alignment, collaboration and commitment across the organisation


Skills & Experience

  • Mid-level role requiring several years of professional experience within a similar organisation

  • Experience of interacting with an international Board

  • Strong stakeholder and project management experience required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and one other language

  • Experience in strategic communications highly desired

  • Superb attention to detail, and ability to track, execute, and manage multiple work streams concurrently

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and cross-culturally, with demonstrable ability to earn trust and credibility with staff and senior leaders

  • Proven ability to have direct and difficult conversations with leaders and staff at all levels of the organisation

  • High degree of comfort with change and ambiguity
