We’re looking for a Senior Data & Analytics Adviser who can carry our detailed research and analysis on a variety of insurance and investments data sources and present this analysis in a way that engages people. You’ll provide your expert insight and high-quality analysis across the long-term savings and insurance sector – making it accessible for a wide range of audiences. You’ll also carry out research projects independently, leveraging existing data sources and identifying new ones.
You won’t just be sitting at your desk crunching the numbers, you’ll build relationships with colleagues across the ABI, helping them to use data that will add value to our members, their customers and the wider insurance industry.
We’re looking for candidates who have prior experience of carrying out data-focused research. Ideally this would be in the insurance, long term savings or investment sector, but we welcome application from those who are new to insurance too.
What’s the job?
Carry out self-directed research into relevant topics related to ABI policy work, leveraging existing data and insight sources and using initiative and research skills to identify new sources.
Analyse a range of data and management information sources, using advanced techniques to extract maximum value from raw data.
Work with ABI colleagues to leverage data more effectively. Support work on analytical problems and develop bespoke solutions where appropriate.
Provide high quality commentary and insight on the key trends and findings from the data, presenting them in an accessible manner.
Present analysis to key stakeholders in a confident and engaging manner.
Build relationships internally and with members to understand current industry issues, and offer data support as necessary.
Develop excellent insurance and long-term savings market knowledge in order to enhance your data and research insights.
Work with a high degree of autonomy to deliver projects and ad hoc research activities as required, with oversight and support from the Assistant Director, Head of Data and Analytics.
Work with and mentor the Data & Analytics Assistants in delivering the day to day running of the Statistics Helpdesk and ABI Subscriptions Service.
Peer review the reports of other team members, ensuring high quality publications are shared internally and externally to the ABI, whilst enhancing your own understanding of our broader work.
Proactively identify opportunities for and take ownership of process improvements including expanding automation within Data & Analytics team projects.
What skills do you need?
Research and analysis skills: you can deliver research projects that use a range of data sources to draw relevant conclusions, explain complex concepts in financial services, and consider the wider economic context throughout.
Data expertise: you can analyse large raw data sets and make sense of the insights and trends, putting them into real-world context for your audience.
Data manipulation tools: you’re an advanced user of Microsoft Excel, SQL and Power BI.
Identifying and communicating trends: you love using data to spot trends, identify the potential implications of these trends, and communicate trends in an engaging way and
Relationship building: you enjoy collaborating with others and make your work accessible for your audience.
