Job Description

 The Holocaust Educational Trust team is made up of hard working, energetic people who are passionate about our mission to educate every person from every background in the UK about the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance. We believe that the Holocaust must have a permanent place in our nation’s collective memory. We work across the UK, providing a wide range of educational programmes.

As Database Officer you would lead on the effective operation and enhancement of our database (currently Raisers Edge), assist the fundraising team as well as with fundraising events. To join this rapidly growing team, in this newly created role, would be an opportunity to be at the forefront of Holocaust education at this critical point in time when the Holocaust is moving from living memory into history.

We are seeking a candidate, eager to make this new role their own. The successful candidate will have exceptional attention to detail who will thrive off producing high-quality work and accurate data. Working alongside the fundraising and finance teams the postholder will be someone who enjoys problem-solving and actively seeks to improve our database processes and pass this knowledge on to other team members.

The Database Officer should have these skills:

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure in a busy environment with multiple demands.

  • Ability to seek creative solutions to problems and think methodically

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work on own initiative

  • Excellent Microsoft Outlook and Excel skills and a solid working knowledge of using formulas, pivot tables and data validation

  • Numeracy skills with the ability to use and create database reports for analysis

The Database Officer should also have:

  • Demonstrable proficiency using a donor database or Customer Relationship Management system, including query, exports, imports and data manipulation.

  • Flexibility to move to a new database (Salesforce, Access, Microsoft Dynamics)

  • Knowledge of fundraising terminology and environment

  • High level of integrity and willingness to maintain strict confidentiality.

  • A willingness to learn new skills and a proactive attitude to keep up to date with new processes to improve efficiency

  • Willing to work as part of a close knit team

In your first 6 months, you’ll:

  • Input, maintain and process records on the database (Raisers Edge), to ensure a high level of accuracy and up to date records.

  • Assist with fundraising events, including our large-scale annual dinner, to manage data, collate materials and ensure the smooth running of events.

  • Prepare mailing lists and be responsible for GDPR compliance on the database; staying up to date with new data policies and protocols.

  • Attend our educational programmes and activities to further your knowledge of our work

  • Observe and work with other members of the Fundraising team to ensure you have a overview of our entire fundraising portfolio

After 6 months in post, we'd expect you to:

  • Regularly review new processes and systems to ensure the database is used to its full potential.

  • Prepare regular financial and supporter reports to be able to scrutinise our fundraising activities as well as delivering wider organisational reporting

  • Deliver regular training and ongoing assistance to relevant team members and work with other departments to ensure Raisers Edge integration on other platforms including our website.

  • Oversee integration and data collection from third party giving platforms

  • Work with the finance team on regular reconciliations and other requests

  • Ensure all Gift Aid data is accurate and submit regular claims to HMRC

  • Assist the fundraising team with donor stewardship and research.
