ABOUT THE TEAM
The International Programmes Impact (IPI) Team sits within Programmes and Partnership Intelligence and is UNICEF UK’s hub of technical expertise on UNICEF’s global programmes and priorities. The IPI Team is the central source of programmatic intelligence, knowledge, interpretation and strategic guidance ensuring outcomes for children remain at the centre of what we do at UNICEF UK.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Programmes Adviser for WASH & CEED reports directly to one of the 3 Principal Programme Advisers and is part of a broader team that includes 5 other Senior Programme Advisers all overseen by the Head of International Programmes Impact.
This role is the UNICEF UK organisational lead and focal point for UNICEF’s global work in WASH & CEED - providing technical expertise, specialist guidance and advice in development programming and anticipatory action, emergency preparedness, response and recovery ensuring cross-organisational campaigns and initiatives are aligned to UNICEF global programmes priorities, managing multiple stakeholder relationships and representing UNICEF UK externally as an expert on WASH, CEED and child rights.
CEED is a cross-cutting thematic area, touching on many programmatic priorities. At UNICEF it particularly encompasses climate, environment (including WASH), energy and disaster risk reduction workstreams.
What we will expect you to achieve
Lead as the focal point within UNICEF UK on UNICEF’s thematic area of WASH & CEED sustainability and proactively advise colleagues on UNICEF emerging priorities, funding gaps, and global regional or country-specific programmatic approaches.
Build, develop and maintain strategic collaborative relationships within wider UNICEF, with colleagues at country, regional, and headquarters offices, as well as serving as the focal point for WASH & CEED for UNICEF UK among global colleagues.
Provide programmatic leadership on UNICEF’s WASH & CEED thematic area to existing and emerging UNICEF UK partnerships.
Respond directly to complex queries within WASH & CEED thematic area from UNICEF UK teams, ensuring that they receive efficient and effective advice, and that the resources they use to assist with queries on UNICEF programmes are current, representative of UNICEF global programmes and safeguard organisational integrity.
Lead or contribute to the delivery of specific IPE team projects, cross-organisational initiatives such as pitches, stewardship events, panel discussions, seminars, one-to-one meetings and other external engagement opportunities.
Work in partnership with UNICEF UK fundraising, advocacy and communications colleagues, to meet with high impact senior external stakeholders and existing partners as an expert on UNICEF’s sustainability thematic area, to influence major outcomes for UNICEF UK and global programmes.
Represent UNICEF UK at conferences and events (within UNICEF globally and externally) relating to WASH & CEED and child rights and provide strategic insights, contacts, and thought leadership on shaping initiatives for UNICEF UK in alignment with UNICEF globally. Engage, as required, as sector specialist with UK media.
Where appropriate, respond directly and resolve queries coming from donors, supporters, and members of the general public.
Deliver in-house training on international development and humanitarian programming and operations, and UNICEF programmes travel.
Within WASH & CEED thematic area, assess the appropriateness of, guide and support any necessary visits of UNICEF UK colleagues and supporters to UNICEF country programmes; contributing to the design, organisation and follow-up of such travel, while ensuring their adherence to UNICEF UK’s programme visit policies and guidance.
Infrequently, travel to UNICEF country programmes and/or to other UNICEF offices to deliver partnership requirements and to participate in UNICEF global meetings to steer the design and delivery of UNICEF UK initiatives and campaigns.
Support cross-org projects relating to thematic including participating as a key technical resource person in the UUK Environmental Management Committee and develop and deliver a mandatory "Sustainability and Climate Change Training" with Environment, Sustainability & Government (ESG) Specialist and Climate Policy Specialist
