Job Description

About Us

Driven by a passion to solve the climate crisis, The Sunrise Project is a team of experienced change-makers with a mission to scale social movements to drive the global transition beyond fossil fuels. With programs and staff in Australia, and affiliated programs and staff in Europe, and the US, we have developed a unique model of grant making and campaigning that supports networks of organisations to drive powerful change towards our mission.

We have a dynamic and nimble organisational culture. We’re serious about supporting our people to thrive as we tackle the urgent climate challenge.

We believe that a diversity of experiences and perspectives will help us build stronger strategies, teams and movements. We take the broadest possible view of diversity and encourage First Nations people, people of colour, people living outside of cities, people living with disabilities, neurodiverse, and LGBTQIA+ people to apply. We are continually working on becoming a better workplace for everyone. You can read our commitment to this work here

About The Program

The auto sector is a major source of emissions and as the EV transition accelerates, lifecycle emissions are shifting from the tailpipe to the carbon-intensive supply chain, in particular steel, aluminum, and battery minerals. In addition to being major sources of emissions, these supply chains are also sources of environmental destruction and human rights abuses.

The Sunrise Project’s Auto Program works on both the EV transition and the automotive supply chain.

About The Role

The role focuses on the  automotive supply chain, and works alongside a growing network of partners to lead digital strategies and execution for the Lead the Charge campaign and coalition in order to pressure the automotive industry to transform its supply chains so that they are fossil-free, equitable and sustainable.

We support networks of organisations to work together to achieve outcomes that would not be possible by individual organisations acting alone. We expect all roles at Sunrise to actively support the capacity building of these networks and partner organisations.

  • Location: Global, with a preference for those located in timezones of the Americas, Europe or Africa. An eligible candidate must have full working rights in the country in which they are applying to work from. Remote working optional.  The Sunrise Project will not sponsor applicants for employment visas.

About You

You’re an experienced digital campaigner proficient in conceiving, creating and implementing effective digital strategies to win campaigns. You have a knack for telling simple, powerful stories that synthesize complex issues and inspire people to take action online. You enjoy coming up with innovative online ideas to engage people and shift narratives. While you’re skilled at developing comprehensive digital strategies to achieve campaign goals, , you also enjoy the nitty gritty of implementation, using various digital tools to be able to communicate how and where most people can affect change. You have a strong working knowledge of social media platforms and analytics, along with a creative eye for organic growth.

You’re a team player with the ability to work effectively across multiple time zones within a coalition environment to support diverse partner groups and maximize our collective impact. You love to learn about new issues and develop new skills, for both digital and offline campaigning.

You’re passionate about solving the climate crisis, have a strong commitment to climate justice and keen to be part of a dedicated team working to eliminate fossil fuels, environmental harms and human rights abuses from auto supply chains, and to support social and climate justice movements to create real change.
