Job Description

The Holocaust Educational Trust seeks a passionate Education Officer. They will join a dynamic Education Team who are at the heart of our mission to educate people from every background across the country about the Holocaust.

The successful candidate will arrive with experience in the UK education sector and with a knowledge and appreciation of Holocaust education. They will join a team of experts and specialists in pedagogical approaches to Holocaust education; research and the academic study of the history of the Holocaust; youth engagement, and mobilisation; oral history and its use in education; site based learning; memorialisation and remembrance; and public awareness of the Holocaust and its relevance today.

They will work to develop and deliver our brand-new schools programme, Testimony 360. Testimony 360 is an immersive, interactive digital education programme that combines eyewitness testimony with virtual site-based learning to offer students an unforgettable learning experience. We are looking for a candidate with willingness to be flexible and adapt to evolving demands and priorities. A strong commitment to the Holocaust Educational Trust’s purpose and values is essential.

The successful candidate should have these skills/experience:

  • Qualified teacher status, or equivalent classroom based experience;

  • Detailed knowledge of the Holocaust and Holocaust education pedagogy;

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills including the ability to present complex and niche histories to large groups with varied knowledge, as well as the ability to disseminate effectively with the team;

  • Experience in researching, developing and delivering high-quality, knowledge rich educational programmes;

  • A robust knowledge of evaluation process and best practice with the ability to gather meaningful feedback from participants;

  • Able to work at pace whilst maintaining a high quality level of accuracy.

  • Ability to work creatively and develop new ideas, taking the initiative to drive forward with plans;

  • Able to work as part of a team, with an appreciation of the benefits of collective working;

  • Experience of line-management or leadership

In your first 6 months, you’ll:

  • Get to know the Testimony 360 programme, its aims, delivery model and its educational content;

  • Undertake training to deliver the Testimony 360 programme in schools (this will require national travel to and from schools);

  • Work with colleagues to develop a robust evaluation strategy for the Testimony 360 programme, ensuring that this learning feeds into development;

  • Work with colleagues to review and adapt lesson plans in the programme's first year to a variety of delivery models;

  • Observe and be trained to teach on our Lessons from Auschwitz Project;

  • Get to know colleagues in the Testimony 360 team (including our freelance educators), including their roles and responsibilities and establish a working routine with the programme’s Education Officer, including line-management.

After 6 months in post, we'd expect you to:

  • Be the lead contact for our pool of freelance educators, providing regular training and/or guidance and establishing routine contact points throughout the year;

  • Lead on the development of the programme's educational content and long-term delivery model(s) including regular classroom delivery and observation;

  • Work with members of the Education Team in dealing with enquiries from teachers, students, partners and members of the public;

  • Teach on a Lessons from Auschwitz project as Lead Educator (2 courses per year);

  • Work with other colleagues across the Trust as they develop, plan and deliver on broader public engagement, fundraising, and awareness raising initiatives.
