The Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF) is the leading membership association for foundations and independent grant-makers in the UK. Driven by a belief that foundations are a vital source for social good, our purpose is to strengthen trusts and foundations so they can rise to the challenges of our times. We do this through the provision of policy and advocacy, research and information, and a wide-ranging programme of events and learning. Our 450 members collectively hold assets of around £50bn and give over £2.5bn annually.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE ROLE
The Senior membership development officer will support the delivery of the ACF membership recruitment plan and big goal to grow our membership by 100 members by 2027. The current membership number is 457. (December 2023)
Working in collaboration with the Head of membership, Director of membership and other team members this role is integral to growing ACF’s membership. Specifically, the role will effectively support and implement strategies to achieve targeted and sustainable long-term membership growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
With support and direction from the head of membership, actively work towards targets for growing ACF membership:
Identify potential members utilising external sources and existing internal data
Proactively approach potential members and promote membership
Steward potential members into membership
Draft copy for our digital marketing channels
Develop other activities to promote and grow membership
Deliver excellent customer service to potential members, handling enquiries from potential members by email and phone
Track and maintain potential members data on a database
Gather and share data on potential members identifying trends and opportunities

Experience, knowledge and skills
Experience
Experience of membership recruitment or sales/fundraising
Experience in a customer facing role
Experience of drafting marketing or sales materials
Skill
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and ability to summarise detailed information
Developed administrative skills
The ability to work alone and as part of a small multi-functional team
Previous experience of navigating and using a CRM system.
Strong IT skill - knowledge of office 365. Any knowledge of managing membership through a CRM system will be preferable
Ability to prioritise, plan and organise day-to-day activities, ensuring efficient and effective performance
Good communication skills

ACF has developed a range of benefits to enable staff to perform and be supported in times where personal situations change. Annual leave is 25 days per year for full time colleagues (pro-rated to hours for part-time colleagues, plus all the bank holidays, as well as time off during Christmas and New Year which does not affect the leave above. We will also make a pension contribution of 10% of base salary on your behalf.
We have a generous sick leave policy to support staff in the event of illness or accident, and a Parental, Maternity and adoption leave policy designed to support staff significantly above our legal obligations.
ACF is currently using hybrid working, with staff able to work from home some of the working week, and we will ensure that any working from home is supported by appropriate equipment. ACF is also open to flexible working arrangements.
The open application process
ACF uses Be Applied https://www.beapplied.com/ as its recruitment platform to remove as much bias as possible during the recruitment process. Candidates will complete questions on the platform, which are scored for every candidate who completes an application by a suitably trained and qualified panel. Those selected to be interviewed are as a result of these scores; we do not take CVs into account at this point in the process.
Interview questions will be shared in advance to enable candidates to prepare thoroughly. The Panel will independently score each candidate’s responses with a review of candidates’ summary scores only when all interviews are completed.
Communication will be via email through the platform and managed independently by ACF’s HR team. Any support a candidate needs can be directed to recruitment@acf.org.uk which will not impact their application, negatively or positively.
