Department/ Division Summary

Purpose of the Role
In alignment with the Carey Way and Careys Health and Safety system, SHED (“Safe Home Every Day”), the Senior Engineer will:
Support the Project Engineer (deputising when necessary) in helping to lead the construction of the allocated Project
Help plan and control the Quality, Safety, Engineering, Design, Logistics, Material deliveries in accordance with project requirements
Deliver Project works “Right First Time” within time and cost constraints adopting the Carey Way and engaging with ALL members of the project team
The Senior Engineer will be expected to divide his or her time as follows: 30% dealing with on-site operations; and 70% at site office Golden Hour, SHED, briefings, QA/QC Inspections and continuous review and learning.
Main Responsibilities
In line with The Carey Way, SHED (“Safe Home Every Day”) and Careys’ relevant policies and procedures, the Senior Engineer’s responsibilities will span and include the following:
Quality
Assisting the Senior Engineer in the achievement of Carey Quality Standards, adhere to robust QITP, QA and QC procedures
Report divergence from and close out/rectify Non-Conformances or failures to achieve specified finishes, tolerances or clear Employers Requirements
Undertake and review assigned QA/QC duties in line with project requirements
Safety and Environment
Contribute to the achievement of Careys’ SHED safety targets by ensuring, induction, ste rules and new starter assessments are fulfilled
Actively engage in Golden Hour daily team discussions to ensure Lifting Plans, RAMS, Task Sheets, Permits and on-site inspections/checks are all fully understood, briefed, implemented and adhered to for all planned work
Report all Health Safety and Environmental incidents, regardless of scale, to promote lessons learned and continuous improvement from incidents and near misses
Technical and Engineering
Guide and support the site engineers in site engineering requirements
Actively oversee on site specific Carey or Specialist Sub Contractor works in accordance with construction design, submission details, approved methods, manufacturers recommendations, inspection needs, installation limits and required integration into the Project works
Temporary Works
Review Temporary Works on site reporting and advising any issues or concerns directly to the Project Engineer/Temporary Works Coordinator
Help in Ensuring Temporary Works on site reflect fully the temporary and permanent works design and build sequence
Enabling the regular audit and inspections of Temporary works and ensuring the project team fully understand constraints regarding each Temporary Works item
Logistics
Proactively plan, schedule, coordinate and support the Project Engineer and Construction Manager in undertaking deliveries and collections
Lifting and handling and general logistics of key materials and plant on the project
Design / Information
Oversee and coordinate the delivery of design of structural elements.
Implement and control coordinated design ensuring buildability, coordination, and adjacencies / connection details. Monitor the Information Release (IRSchedule) to and from Careys to attain Contract and Construction Programme time frames and milestones
Ensure design works and design change are robustly controlled and managed to enable earliest identification and notification in the interests of the Project
Ensure all information used for construction of the project is latest revision and confirmed as ready for Construction
Materials / Procurement
Help the team ensure all materials comply with specification and employers’ requirements, are fully approved for incorporation in to the project and are QA/QC managed for the Project
Lead the team to review, secure and deliver as programmed only approved materials for the project
Programme
Support the Project Manager in producing, overseeing and monitoring adherence to short term rolling programme for Construction Programme attainment
Leading and attending the delivery and briefing to the project team daily and weekly briefings to proactively focus design (temporary and permanent), procurement, labour, plant and staff in order to secure programmed dates and milestones
Support input to project Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting to allow weekly review of project performance
Commercial
Input and assist the Project Manager in the review of historic, current and costs to complete for project budgeting and weekly cost performance
To report regularly to the PM and QS issues likely to impact on the project budget and allow input into the monthly Contract Review reporting
Raise Variations issues be they method, time, technical, etc. related
Staffing and Labour Management
Support the Project Manager in proactively managing and openly communicating with the entire project team utilising the Golden Hour and Carey Way as well as regular meetings to inform, motivate, train, mentor, develop and aid personnel PDR attainment for self and others
Assist the Project Engineer in leading the site engineering function on the project
Stakeholder Management
Ensure Project engineering team, Construction Manager, supervisors and delivery team fully understand the customer (client) key requirements regarding quality, tolerance, specified and applied finishes utilising samples, benchmarks and mock ups as directed by the Project Manager and Operations / Contracts Manager
Report / Support
Report major problems and concerns with regard to all aspects of the role above in a timely and honest manner to the Project Manager and Operations /Contracts Manager to allow proactive support or action to be taken at the earliest opportunity
Support project lessons learned and feedback to relevant departments and stakeholders as well as sharing good / bad practice to drive the Carey Way
Desirable Skills & Experience
Higher level qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Structural Engineering
M.I.C.E – desirable/ AMICE / IEng
CSCS / IOSH / SMSTS
Temporary Works Coordinator
Technically competent / Effective problem solver / Team Player, Methodical proactive planner.
Ability to programme / schedule.
