Our mission as a company is to relentlessly drive resources to and break down barriers for these entrepreneurs solving these BFPs (Big F*&kin’ Problems). For the media team, that means mobilizing storytelling in its various forms and through our diverse channels to generate as much exposure and awareness as possible for our brand and our community.

The Manager of Press and Communications (the “Manager”) will report to the Senior Director of Media and Communications and work alongside the Media team spanning brand, communications, video, and social media functions, and will support in strengthening an original and truly impactful brand across all of our various communications channels. The Manager will assist in producing, delivering, and managing Unreasonable's external communications strategy in the market. Specifically, the Manager will support in generating all Unreasonable press releases, work with each of our corporate partners to design and implement communications related to every program that is run at Unreasonable, and help design, iterate, and execute our global strategy for all digital communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media & Press Relations

  • Enthusiastically and creatively elevate and amplify Unreasonable’s profile in relevant traditional media outlets as well as across social channels 

  • Support media relations including developing and maintaining new and existing relationships with key journalists and influencers across top tier business, consumer and trade press

  • Develop press collateral to help drive exposure and credibility to the Unreasonable brand and our partnerships 

  • Help identify new thought leadership opportunities, speaking engagements, conference attendance, podcasts, guest blogs etc for teammates across Unreasonable (Note: Press and related communications activities will make up ~50% of this role.

Unreasonable Owned & Operated Channels

  • Develop a content, growth and engagement strategy across all Unreasonable social channels and bi-weekly newsletter.  

  • Manage Unreasonable Group’s social channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube) on a daily basis and newsletter on a semi-monthly basis

  • Stay informed and up-to-date about the work and achievements of all key people in our community – from our entrepreneur Fellows to our Mentors – and consistently highlight their successes across our social channels.

  • Work with our partners (e.g. Barclays, Pearson, Accenture, etc.) to plan and implement social media strategies, run campaigns, and develop reports on our progress

  • Work closely with our Video Production Manager to creatively leverage video content across platforms, best representing the voice of Unreasonable, our Fellows, and our partners.

Marketing materials

  • Support the Partnerships team with creation of key sales documents for marketing and closing new contracts (eg. one-pagers on top companies, evidence of value UG provides for partners, anecdotal stories of success/testimonials, messaging for pitch decks, etc.)

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR....

  • You have solid connections at major outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, The Economist, Financial Times, Business Insider, Upworthy, Fast Company, TechCrunch etc. and/or are comfortable building such relationships in a genuine way

  • You have experience writing briefs, crafting and pitching stories using data and proof points.

  • You are well versed in the key themes surrounding the social and environmental impact ecosystem.

  • You have experience building a brand’s social presence from the ground up, especially during periods of fast growth and scale.

  • You are supremely entrepreneurial and love to run experiments to test your ideas.

  • You are equal parts left-brain and right-brain. You are wildly creative, yet you love to analyze the details to make informed decisions.

  • You believe magic is in the details. Every pixel and letter counts.

  • You are a strong writer, and you believe in the power of telling stories that drive action.

  • You are a flawless multi-tasker, able to seamlessly shift between conversations, projects, and relationships. You thrive in this kind of environment.

  • You are equally able to collaborate with a multinational partner or teammate as you are able to take full ownership of a project from start to finish.

  • You enjoy working on a small, fast-paced team with autonomy and ambiguity, willing to jump on tasks as they arise.

APPLICATION TIMELINE 

  • August 27th: Application goes live.

  • September 14th: Your application is due.

  • September 16th -18th: If you are invited to the next round of the process, we will schedule a 20 minute phone call with you.

  • September 18th -22nd​: We will give select applicants a small “trial project” representative of the type of work associated with this position. Though we will give you 5 days to finish your "trial project," it should only take a few hours to complete.

  • September 24th - September 29th: Assuming both of us want to continue exploring the potential of working together, we'll invite you to interview with our team.

  • October 1st - 2nd​: We will conduct reference checks on the two to three most compelling applicants for this position.

  • October 5th: Assuming you made it through the reference checks, you will be notified whether or not the position is yours.

  • October 26th: Ideally, those accepted will be able to join the company no later than October 26th, 2020.
